WES has wrapped up work at the Easton Wells PFAS Treatment facilities and was in attendance for the ribbon cutting event on April 2, 2024. The project included the installation of three filter plants to service three existing wells, which are now all operational in filtering out PFAS from the town’s drinking water in accordance with Massachusetts DEP regulations. Easton officials had determined it would be beneficial to install the PFAS treatment filter plants at wells 1,2, and 4 after discovering PFAS levels exceeding the Maximum Contaminant Level. WES installed the new filter plants, which use an ion exchange resin to filter out PFAS and made updates to existing infrastructure at the three sites.

WES Construction has successfully completed the work at two 15-foot diameter shafts for the MWRA’s Ward Street Headworks and the Columbus Park Headworks. The work entailed demolition of the concrete covers, shaft walls and protective grating over the 200 ft deep shafts, dewatering the main influent shafts at Deer Island Treatment Plant and the reconstruction of the shaft walls, covers and wastewater level indicators instruments.   The 15-foot diameter shaft cover was removed and disposed of by use of heavy equipment. The shaft walls were cut using a wire saw and then pulled off by an excavator. A temporary false deck was installed to provide fall protection above the 200-foot-deep shaft while the new shaft walls were being constructed. The new shaft cover was poured on site and then hoisted into place.   By-pass pumping and dewatering of the outfall shafts at Deer Island Treatment Plant was required to maintain the elevation of the flow below the shafts. WES was allowed a 4-to-6-hour window, at night, to remove the protective shaft grating. WES set up an extensive bypass pumping system for 600 GPM to 1000 GPM to maintain the working height of the wastewater.   Once the grating was removed and the structure was reconstructed, wastewater level indicators were installed to measure and monitor the flow from the headworks to the Deer Island Plant.
