Meet Jennie Coleman, president of Equifruit, a company on a bold mission to take on Big Banana. 🍌 The problem? The hidden cost of cheap bananas. "Bananas are so cheap because small growers and plantation workers are essentially subsidizing our favorite fruit through low wages and poor working conditions and living the effects of toxic environmental practices," she says. "On the retail side, there is an expectation that bananas will always be priced low, supply chain consequences be damned. Equifruit is changing both ends of this supply chain.” And Equifruit is gaining ground. The company is one of Canada’s Top Growing Companies and now the leading Fairtrade-certified banana importer in North America. Jennie pursued women-owned business certification through WEConnect International to help set Equifruit apart in a male-dominated produce industry, but also to find inspiration and support in our global network of women entrepreneurs. “We feel tremendous pride being among this community," she says. "And empowered by the accomplishments of others." Read more about Jennie's journey to entrepreneurship, the partnerships that helped her business grow, and her advice for other women business owners: https://lnkd.in/eiVsqsUt #WomenOwned #BuyWomenOwned #FairTrade #WBE

Tree Diversidade is a company with a powerful purpose—to create a world where everyone can thrive. Founded by Letícia Lara Rodrigues, the company makes a meaningful impact on society by promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion in the workplace. Its staff works with companies and organizations to develop initiatives that promote gender equality, racial equality, and the inclusion of people with disabilities, those from the LGBTQ+ community, and those from all generations. Through education, consulting services, and programs, Tree Diversidad helps people reach their full potential and make a meaningful difference in the workplace. One of Tree Diversidade’s biggest customers resulted from its partnership with WEConnect International. Through it, the company accessed a network of corporate buyers, expanded its customer base, and won new business from large corporations. It also benefited from WEConnect International’s training and development programs, including access to financing, business coaching, and mentorship opportunities. We are grateful to have supported Tree Diversidade as it obtained certification, grew its business, and furthered its work to increase inclusion in the workplace. Won’t you join us this month as we celebrate Pride Month and recognize the importance of businesses supporting the LGBTQ+ community? Please make a donation today: https://lnkd.in/eeq375U7 #WomenOwned #BuyWomenOwned #PrideMonth
