Ensuring kids grow to be mentally well by creating spaces where they know they belong

About us

We're ensuring kids grow to be mentally well by providing cost-free afternoon spaces for them to come find meaningful connection and creative autonomy. Churches provide the space, members of the community volunteer and location directors organize activities. It takes a village.

    Executive Director at Project LEDO

This summer we partnered with We Belong PDX!!! At Project LEDO, we believe in empowering the next generation of tech professionals, especially those from vulnerable backgrounds. This summer, we're taking a holistic approach by integrating mental health support alongside our cutting-edge robotics programs. This partnership with We Belong PDX provides students with invaluable resources to foster both their technical skills and emotional well-being. Together, we're creating an environment where young leaders can thrive, innovate, and build a brighter future.🌟 I am so thankful to Sarah Lopez-Madrigal and her team for partnering in this amazing initiative and for being the best partners in this. Your dedication and support to the well-being of our community is well noted. Thank you KPTV Fox 12 Oregon for coming out and capturing our impact even though I was not able to be there. #ProjectLEDO #WeBelongPDX #MentalHealth #Robotics #SummerCamp #EmpoweringYouth #TechForGood https://lnkd.in/gH-Ag_qg

Check out this article posted by University of Oregon, shared by our Executive Director. Social connection saves lives. We're grateful for the social connections we form everyday with the WeBe kiddos and their families. It's making a difference, there's no doubt.

"About 20 percent of U.S. high school students said they had serious thoughts of suicide, and 9 percent reported they had attempted suicide over the past year, according to a recent Centers for Disease Control and Prevention survey. Yet there is an ongoing national shortage of mental health services... Both studies found that measures of connectedness in school and neighborhoods were associated with a lower risk of suicide attempts among these high-risk teens." This article released by U of O, featuring studies by doctoral candidate Lauren Berny, is both alarming and encouraging. The rates are alarming, but the simplicity of the solution is encouraging. We must prioritize social connectedness for our youth. It's essential that we, the adults, take action and engage. Let's put our phones away and prioritize a listening ear to young ones. It will save lives. #belonging #socialconnection https://lnkd.in/gzpYigTS

Enough with the "They're a creative and I'm not" rhetoric. We are all made to create and it turns out, when we're not creating our body and mind pay a price. Plan a time this week when you'll do something hands-on to use that creative muscle that exists in each of us. Dedicating time consistently to hands-on creativity will do wonders for your mental health 💛

Such a blast! Huge thanks to Gary Hirsch from On Your Feet, who generously gave his time to engage both our Freedom and Hope Center crew with simple and fun improv oriented games. Games like those we learned help develop confidence, collaboration and quick, critical thinking skills. These are essential for successful leadership in our present workforce and we're so excited to teach them to our other two groups of kiddos and play them for years to come. Thank you again, Gary!
