#ammonia #shipping #decarbonization A recent MIT study has raised concerns about using ammonia as a marine fuel. The study found that burning ammonia creates harmful by-products like nitrogen oxides. These oxides can form fine particulate matter, which contributes to air pollution and pose health hazards. Without new regulations to control these emissions, switching the global fleet to ammonia could lead to more premature deaths. Prof Lynn Loo was interviewed by TradeWinds regarding this study in which she shared the following views: → Robust regulations will need to be in place to ensure operational safety and minimise negative environmental and health impacts. → To strengthen the study, which relied primarily on experimental ammonia combustion data, real-world data from ship trials would add granularity. → These learnings can help operationalize crew training, and develop safe handling procedures and emergency response plans to mitigate ammonia release. → Data from these pilots can help inform policy recommendations to mitigate the unintended release of ammonia and harmful pollutants that result from its use as a marine fuel. https://lnkd.in/gF7GNSZ5

Saudi Arabia has decided not to renew its 80-year petro-dollar deal with the United States. The deal, which expired on Sunday 9 June The crucial decision to not renew the contract enables Saudi Arabia to sell oil and other goods in multiple currencies, including the Chinese RMB, Euros, Yen, and Yuan, instead of exclusively in US dollars. TIC Companies are frequently asked to prepare composite samples in non laboratory environments such as the deck of a marine vessel or on the top of a shore tank. These samples are often referred to as “Deck Composites” or “Field Composites”. While such samples may be considered necessary as a matter of expediency, TIC Council would like to point out that the use of such composite samples and any analysis derived from them can be very problematic.  TIC Council recommends that composite samples prepared in non laboratory environments should be avoided and that its members’ clients review their current sampling instructions and explore alternatives to this type of sampling. The reason most frequently given for preparing deck composites is to provide a sample to be retained on board after a ship has loaded. Non representative nature of deck composite samples with uncertain sample storage conditions on board, generally lead to these samples being rejected in the case of a dispute.  #Deck Composite #TIC council #VTIC services #technical Bulletin
