The DC Chamber reflects the diversity & prosperity of the District of Columbia’s robust business community.

About us

On June 20, 1938, the Washington, DC Chamber of Commerce was incorporated in the nation’s capital. Initially formed to provide services for African–American businesses in the city, the name of the organization was changed to the Negro Chamber of Commerce in 1946, to reflect the unique needs of black businesses. In 1956 our leadership re-evaluated the needs of businesses in the city and re-established itself as the District of Columbia Chamber of Commerce. With the new name came a new direction, and the Chamber expanded its operations to address the needs of all businesses in the District of Columbia. The DC Chamber has continued to uphold its commitment to delivering the capital to businesses and citizens. We provide invaluable tools to help businesses develop, and it leverages relationships with key contacts in the DC Council and the Federal government to improve the business climate and attract new businesses to the District. Today the DC Chamber continues its mission, to be the most valuable resource and leading advocate for businesses throughout the District of Columbia; with a bold vision to create a vibrant, thriving economy that improves the quality of life for all in the District, establishing mutually beneficial partnerships between business, government and the community.

We’re excited to share another key highlight: Our own D. Simone Williams-Arrington, Board Member and International Committee Co-Chair, delivered an inspiring session at the #SelectUSAInvestmentSummit! On a panel titled "Chat with a Lawyer: Top 8 Legal Mistakes Made by Foreign Entrepreneurs,” Simone Williams provided excellent insight for all business leaders and entrepreneurs to consider. The #DCChamber is proud to have Simone as a Board Member. Thank you for all you do!

The #DCChamber was proud to be part of SelectUSA's Investment Summit last week, bringing together key industry players and community members interested in entrepreneurship and investment. One of the key highlights from last week was getting the chance to watch DC Mayor Muriel Bowser participate in a fireside chat with Alex Orfinger from the Washington Business Journal. Mayor Bowser spoke on the unique landscape of DC’s business community and how the District helps businesses start and thrive in our nation’s capital. One of the key initiatives Mayor Bowser spoke on included the Washington, DC Global Soft Landing, an effort to attract international companies and entrepreneurs, which the DC Chamber is proud to be a part of. It was a fantastic session with plenty of lessons learned. A big thank you to Mayor Bowser and SelectUSA for the opportunity to share why DC is the best place to do business.
