This #TrailblazerTuesday, we are excited to shine the spotlight on Lauren Y. Casteel, a trailblazer who will be retiring from her role as President and CEO of The Women's Foundation of Colorado in January. As the first woman of color to lead the foundation, Lauren has made a significant impact statewide with her strong commitment to gender, racial, and economic equity. She has an impressive track record, being the first person in Colorado to lead three foundations, and has nearly 30 years of leadership experience, demonstrating a lifelong dedication to inclusiveness. Lauren's remarkable journey includes leadership roles at the Temple Hoyne Buell Foundation, Hunt Alternatives Fund, and a successful 16-year tenure as president of The Denver Foundation.

Voice. Vision. Value. Black Women Leading Philanthropy is a digital narrative project housed at Foundation for Louisiana. The project celebrates the leadership impact of Black women in professional philanthropy today. It also honors the iconic trailblazers that paved the way for the historic professional community of Black women CEOs, trustees, senior executives, administrative assistants, program officers, grants managers, and program associates across the current talent and leadership pipeline. The digital narrative project launch of Voice. Vision. Value. Black Women Leading Philanthropy is the lead up to the August 2021 release of the book Black Women Leading Philanthropy; A 50 Year Journey. The book is being developed in connection with the 50th anniversary of ABFE (Association of Black Foundation Executives) and all proceeds from book sales will go to ABFE.

Today's #TrailblazerTuesday honors Leslie Mays, an influential leader who has spearheaded significant culture transformation initiatives for over 30 years in various industries. She most recently held the inaugural role of Chief Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Officer at the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation for five years. In this position, she ensured that DEI principles were integrated and had an impact across all areas of the foundation, including its culture, talent, grantmaking, and program outcomes. Additionally, Leslie has made a lasting impact on some of the world's largest companies, such as Avon Products, Kimberly Clark, Pfizer Inc., Royal Dutch Shell, and General Mills, through her groundbreaking work in diversity and inclusion strategies.

Summer's career is a testament to her dedication to advancing education, youth development, access to health services, and nonprofit capacity building. She also served as one of the Bay Area co-curators for Portraits of Us: A Book of Essays Celebrating Black Women in Philanthropy. Throughout her journey, Summer has consistently excelled in managing and supporting critical projects, planning initiatives, and fostering community growth. With a career spanning over twenty-five years in the nonprofit, philanthropic, and public sectors, Jackson brings a wealth of experience and a deep understanding of the issues facing communities today. Today's #TrailblazerTuesday celebrates Deborah Aubert Thomas, recently appointed President and CEO of United Philanthropy Forum. Deborah previously served as President & CEO of Philanthropy Ohio since 2019. During her tenure, Deborah provided strategic insights, initiated transformative projects, and promoted extensive collaboration within the philanthropic community. Her advocacy work on behalf of philanthropy in Ohio has played a crucial part in shaping policy and bringing about significant change in the state. Deborah fervently supports advancing racial equity and justice within the national philanthropic sector. She is a co curator for the VVV book project Portraits of Us and also shares her expertise with Grantmakers for Effective Organizations (GEO) and previously served as a Board Member and Programs & DEI Chair at The Women's Fund of Central Ohio.
