Virginia Credit Union’s Cherry Dale has been appointed by Gov. Glenn Youngkin to serve on the Virginia Council on Women. This advisory council brings together leaders from across the Commonwealth to advise the governor and General Assembly on matters pertaining to women, with particular focus on educational, professional, cultural, and governmental issues. Dale leads the credit union's financial education team, which reaches 100,000 individuals annually with lessons on personal finance and money management basics. “I’m honored to serve on the Council,” says Dale. “We have so much diversity and talent within the Commonwealth, and I’m excited to join my fellow Council members in exploring and creating opportunities for women and girls.”

On Wednesday, we spent the day helping local middle schoolers do some career exploration, while learning important money skills. About 65 students got to learn what it’s like to work at the credit union and how their skills could set them up for success. Thanks, parents, for sharing your bright kids for the morning. Next up is our High School Money Camp on August 9. Sign up coming soon!

Today we commemorate June 19, 1865, when — more than 2 years after the Emancipation Proclamation — Union Army troops arrived in Galveston, Texas, with the news that the more than 250,000 enslaved Black people in the state were free. Now officially a federal holiday, #Juneteenth celebrates this historic event.
