Last week marked the first time the LGBTQI+ Advisory Group for the LGBTQI+ Youth Subnetwork met together in person. Hosted at Vibrant Headquarters, the event brought together partners across multiple organizations to discuss the future and impact of the subnetwork. Along with Vibrant and the 988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline’s own staff, some of the organizations represented at the event include Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), Volunteers of America Western Washington, The Trevor Project, Centerstone, Carelon Health, HRC Alabama, PDM Consulting, Centre Helps, La Frontera EMPACT - Suicide Prevention Center, Coordinated Care Services, Inc. (CCSI), Primary Care Development Corporation (PCDC). This group was hand-selected by the Equity and Belonging team back in 2022, driven and led by Johnell (J.) Lawrence, Director of Equity and Belonging, in conjunction with the launch of 988 Lifeline “press 3” option as a pilot program for LGBTQI+ youth. What was made most apparent by this event is the magic that can occur in one day’s time when brilliant folks are gathered together under a common mission. The devotion to equitable and inclusive crisis care was unmatched in that room, and there is much excitement around what is brewing for this collaborative effort.
