  • We often think winter is the toughest season for the homeless. But did you know summer is just as challenging? As temperatures rise and schools close, the demand for homeless services surges by 25%. Homeless families, especially Veterans and their loved ones, face increased hardships. At Veterans Community Project (VCP), we provide housing and stability for Veterans who served our country. Each night, nearly 40,000 Veterans sleep on the streets. With the summer surge, 10,000 more could join them. Veterans experience homelessness at a disproportionate rate—1 in 5 people experiencing homelessness have served our country in uniform. Your generosity helps VCP offer essential services to hundreds of Veterans annually, giving them a home, hope, and a place to make summer memories. As you enjoy your summer, think about the Veterans we serve. Your donation can create lasting summer memories for those in need. Make a difference at vcp.org/Summer24. Help us give Veterans the support they deserve.

  • With a focus deeply on military and Veteran support, GEHA Health is setting a benchmark for employee-led volunteerism and corporate social responsibility. Whether they’re hosting Chiefs watch parties for residents at the Village, packing food and hygiene care packages for Veterans, or investing in dental care for those who have served and are supported by us, GEHA is making a tangible difference in the lives of Veterans in Kansas City and across the country. We are grateful for our long-standing partnership with GEHA and look forward to many more years of collaboration. Together, we are creating a brighter future for our Veterans and their families. • Right now, hundreds of volunteers are busy building new Villages in Veterans Community Project of St. Louis, Veterans Community Project of Longmont, and Veterans Community Project of Sioux Falls. Some paint, others install windows or floors, but everyone leaves their mark. Before departing for the day, each volunteer crew writes notes of encouragement, blessing, or gratitude on the unfinished surfaces of a tiny house. Soon, we will be able to tell the Veteran who lives there about the community of support surrounding them, even while they sleep. As you can imagine, having three active construction sites at one time is exciting and also a big lift for our organization. Can you help? Together we can accomplish what none of us could do apart. With your gift, you can permanently leave your mark on a tiny house, too! Our volunteers will add your note to a wall, floor, or unpainted cabinet in St. Louis, Longmont, or Sioux Falls. Thank you for your generosity and for always having our back. You are the strong foundation upon which this mission stands. https://lnkd.in/eHUrCZB

  • We have some truly inspiring supporters! For the third year in a row, our friend and avid supporter Eric, along with a group of Veterans, real estate investors, and business owners, will venture into the wild to support Veterans Community Project of Longmont. After conquering previous hikes along the Tahoe Rim Trail, Grand Canyon’s R3, and Mt. Hood Timberline Trail, this 200+ mile hike is their most challenging yet. Nine hikers will spend two weeks in the wilderness, culminating at the summit of Mount Whitney, the highest point in the Lower 48 at 14,505'. Let's celebrate their team for their incredible dedication and support! - - - #VeteransCommunityProject #VeteranHomelessness #ChallengeForCharity #JohnMuirTrail #SupportOurVeterans #HikeForACause

  • Today, as we attend the 2023 VA/DoD Suicide Prevention Convention in Portland, OR, we wear blue to honor the service and sacrifice of the American military through active remembrance. As we collaborate with government and non-government agencies this week, we share vital knowledge about Veteran Suicide Prevention, building on our work as a recipient of the SSG Fox Suicide Prevention Program grant. Since January 2023, VCP has screened over 400 Veterans for suicide risk across three different sites, providing essential support to mitigate potential risk factors. We are proud to report that of the Veterans we’ve screened, none have been lost to suicide. If you—or an immediate family member—are experiencing issues leading to suicidal thoughts or actions, please reach out to us at vcp.org for help. - - #veteransupport #mentalhealthawareness #ssgfox #buddycheck #VeteranServices

  • We proudly share the incredible journey of an Army Veteran and his wife who successfully transitioned from Veterans Community Project of Kansas City. After serving in Iraq and sustaining life-long neurological damage, this Veteran faced constant seizures and struggled to receive adequate healthcare. When he and his wife arrived at VCP's Village, they were in terrible debt and in desperate need of support. In just 23 months, with the help of VCP’s case management and essential wrap-around services, they managed to pay off all their debt and set a new course for their future. By creating intricate budgets and using the Envelope System of saving, they planned proactively for their new home. Today, this couple has transitioned to a working farm where they built and customized a modular home. This soldier is now a full-time farmer, excitedly shaping his land with crops, livestock, and an apiary of honeybees. Thanks to the support of Veterans Community Project, he could focus on his goals after getting his healthcare and finances in line. When asked what he would change about VCP's program, he said, "nothing," expressing he knew the program would require hard work, but it was worth it. • We are thrilled to announce that Generac’s Power Up with Purpose promotion at Summerfest raised an incredible $81,578 for Veterans Community Project, surpassing our goal of $75,000! These funds will cover the construction costs of one tiny home at our Milwaukee Village, set to begin in early 2025. Thank you to Generac, Summerfest, and everyone who supported this initiative. Your generosity is making a real impact in the lives of Veterans in our community. As VCP continues its capital campaign to build the Milwaukee Village, Generac’s Power Up with Purpose program has brought us closer to putting shovels in the ground. We still need to raise over a million dollars for the first phase of construction, and we need your help to make this vision a reality. • We’re celebrating the success of Glen, one of our newest residents at Veterans Community Project of St. Louis as he accepts a job offer with the St. Louis Public Schools. Glen's journey has been nothing short of inspiring. He showed incredible determination, biking 15 miles just to reach VCP, and that same persistence has helped him secure a job. At Veterans Community Project, our mission is to support every Veteran in need, providing housing, wrap-around services, and a community that empowers them to achieve their goals. Glen's response to life’s challenges, his positive outlook, and unshakeable belief in himself are sure to encourage the students and everyone he meets. In just a few short weeks, he has taken significant steps toward his long-term goals and we couldn't be more proud of him. Join us in congratulating Glen and supporting Veterans like him who are working tirelessly to rebuild their lives.
