HSBC Innovation Banking (the former SVB team) just released its mid-year report on state of venture funding for #healthcare, which includes trends and insights into which sectors capital is flowing. Thanks to Jonathan Norris and team! https://lnkd.in/gvmKNRSd Highlights: --Vensana Capital made two investments--leading the Series A for iVEAcare, Inc. alongside Treo Ventures and the Series C for Elucent Medical, Inc. alongside RC Capital--and achieved an exit to Stryker with its acquisition of Artelon. --#Peripheral vascular and #neuromodulation have unsurprisingly continued to attract a lot of capital. This is in part due to the growth opportunity as much as it is the capital intensity. We continue to like this space and are enthusiastic about our #IVUS company, Evident Vascular, Inc. --Crossover and long-only funds still active in later stage commercial opportunities, but at largely down or flat rounds. Beware of highly dilutive large amounts of capital and high valuations that limit your future options --#Cardiovascular leads in pre-commercial funding dollars and where large corporate strategics have been most active in pre-approval M&A over the years.

Some great advice in this interview — featuring Jeffry Weinhuff of Visionary Ventures — relevant to all sub-sectors of #medtech. My favorite line is “investment capital is not tuition.” 😂 But the best advice stems from the insight that good exits via IPO or M&A processes with multiple buyers competing for your company require that most medtech companies must prove their value via strong commercial metrics. And doing that takes a lot of time, expertise and money. Plan, hire and raise capital accordingly.
