Tools and Approaches to Learning for Better Development Programming
About us
USAID Learning Lab is a collaborative online space where USAID staff and partners share learning approaches across collaborating, learning, and adapting (CLA), monitoring, and evaluation to improve organizational processes and development programming. CLA, monitoring, and evaluation are fundamental components of the Agency’s operational model for planning, delivering, assessing, and adapting Agency programming: the Program Cycle. Visit USAID Learning Lab to learn about the Program Cycle, and to share resources, tips, and tools for working together towards better development outcomes! Learning Lab is hosted by USAID’s Bureau for Policy, Planning, and Learning (PPL), with support from PPL’s Program Cycle Mechanism. Contact us at info@usaidlearninglab.org with questions or comments.

How do you measure success? For our July Summer Reading List, we’re revisiting this blog from the Interaction Institute for Social Change on the complexities of this all-important question in #collaboration. The Institute’s R-P-R Triangle model names three dimensions of success: Results, Process, and Relationship. Each dimension is linked and dependent on each other—with a complicated balance. https://lnkd.in/guNANFfh What do you think? Let us know in the comments. ⤵️

#USAID’s fourth #BiteSizedLearning Session, “CLA Saves the Day: Successful Activity Redesigns and Pivots”, took place earlier this month. An overview of the session is now available on #USAIDLearningLab: https://lnkd.in/eftKrbs6 The Bite-Sized Learning series aims to surface lessons learned from the #CLACaseComp evidence base of more than 600 CLA cases, and to share these lessons with development professionals within and beyond the Agency. Let us know what you think of this session in the comments, and keep an eye out for more Bite-Sized Learning in the future! #MEL

🚨 The deadline to submit a case to the #USAIDCLACaseComp is just one week away: July 26 🚨 Help us expand the evidence-base for using #CLA in development programming! The past decade of case submissions have been important to informing USAID's and partners' ongoing work in applying #CLA approaches for organizational learning and improved results—like this winning submission from 2021 that made a splash! To strengthen the Philippines’ response to illegal, unreported, and unregulated fishing, the @USAID Fish Right Program leveraged analysis and reflection to bring together government agencies, local fishing communities, CSOs, and academic institutions to build consensus and strengthen partnerships. One of the goals of #CLA is to make data-driven decisions to improve program performance. To hold more effective trainings for farmers and small businesses, USAID Laos Microenterprise used QR codes and cell phones to collect, analyze, and apply data to tailor training sessions to local needs. Ultimately, the project developed tools that participants liked and understood—resulting in 97 percent of farmers adopting at least one new business skill.
