About us
Unity Unlimited aims to provide educational activities and resources to people, young and old, to foster unity and harmony within the community, the city, the state, the nation and the world regardless of race, culture or denomination and regardless of the form in which the events may be presented, including but not limited to workshops, expositions, concerts, rallies and lectures. Unity Unlimited, Inc. was granted use of two vacant acres in Fort Worth by the Trinity Regional Water District (TRWD) for the express purpose of creating an urban farm. The farm is named after Ms. Opal Lee, a longtime community and humanitarian activist in Fort Worth, and a founding member of Unity Unlimited, Inc. Opals Farm produces organic produce that will be distributed throughout area food deserts and low-income communities, helping restore health and vitality to local neighborhoods. A portion of the fruit and vegetable harvest is sold to local chefs, restaurateurs, and markets to support local farm-to-table needs and to help make the farm self-sustaining. The farm creates jobs, provides job training, and brings a spirit of entrepreneurship and self-reliance to the local community. The two available acres of arable, urban land connects food production, processing and distribution in the same space. This is basically from farm to plate; which is a win-win for the residents of Fort Worth and a model for other municipalities.

In 1939, Opal Lee and her family were forced out of their home by a white mob in Fort Worth’s south side neighborhood; their family never returned. That was fixed today. After 85 years she returned to her, slightly updated, childhood home. A celebration worthy of the occasion. We are humbled and inspired. On Friday, Dr. Opal Lee was welcomed home at the historic site where her family’s home once stood. Surrounded by family, friends, civic leaders and supporters including many JCPenney associates, the “Grandmother of Juneteenth” was gifted the keys to her new home in Fort Worth in a dedication ceremony just days before Juneteenth. When Dr. Lee was 12 years old, her family was run out of the neighborhood by a racist mob, and now 85 years later, she finally has the opportunity to return home thanks to the generosity of HistoryMaker Homes, Texas Capital and Trinity Habitat for Humanity. JCPenney is thrilled to support Dr. Lee as she embarks on a new chapter in this home, and we were honored to help make her long-awaited homecoming even more special by providing furnishings to her preferences to make the house feel like home. JCPenney donated bedding, curtains, towels, small kitchen appliances, dinnerware, pillows, throw blankets and more, and associates volunteered to move these items into the home ahead of the dedication. On Juneteenth, JCPenney associates will march alongside Dr. Lee for the fourth year in a row at Opal’s Walk for Freedom, and 100% of net profits from our #HopeAndWonder #Juneteenth collection will benefit Unity Unlimited, Inc., the nonprofit that organizes the annual walk.
