We recently held our Spring Leadership Conference at United Community’s headquarters home in Greenville, SC. This event brings 200 of our bankers from across the Southeast together to enjoy some much-appreciated networking. In many cases, it’s the one time of year we see each other in the same room! This year, I was privileged to host a United Community customer panel featuring Dr. Emily Howell, of Howell Orthodontics in Jefferson, Commerce, and Winder, GA, Tino McFarland, founder of McFarland Construction in Charlotte, NC, and Rylan Miller, Southeast multi brand franchise owner. We talked about the value of personal relationships and how far trust goes in today’s environment. We asked why they chose United when there are so many options out there. We talked about resources, tools, and communication. These three offered valuable insights to our group and gave us some great ideas for opportunities as we all continue to grow together. Our CEO Lynn Harton's theme this year centered about the idea of ‘staying small’ as we continue to grow. This conference, to me, is a perfect example of that. No matter how much the bank grows, we continue to value this time we spend together. It’s a chance to see some of our teammates in person and build those relationships. That is part of the secret sauce to what we do – our people make the difference.
