About us

Founded in 1966, United Insulated Structures (UISC, LLC) is a national design+build firm specializing in cold storage and food processing facilities. Success comes from the strength of our relationships. With an 80% repeat customer rate, our commitment to honesty and high-standards for quality have consistently earned us the trust of clients on projects large and small. At United Insulated Structures, we team with you to deliver solutions that solve today’s facility challenges while anticipating tomorrows. We have the know-how to fully understand your unique business requirements – especially around the need to achieve the lowest possible operating costs while optimizing energy efficiency and program flexibility. Our style is to work with you collaboratively using an open-book approach to quickly design alternative solutions for you to choose from early in the design process. As your “one-stop-shop,” we provide single source accountability. This approach allows us to guarantee that the project is designed, engineered, and constructed with your project goals as the top priority while also achieving the earliest possible completion date. Key is our in-house team of architects, engineers, and construction managers, as well as our self-perform crews that specialize in the most critical components of the project…the building’s thermal envelope. Complementing our team are proven specialists in material handling, MEP, and refrigeration systems. These independent professionals are “supplier agnostic” so that they can be free to recommend the solution that best fits your unique needs.

  • We’re excited to announce the completion of a 278,000 sf freezer distribution warehouse in Rock Hill, SC for Karis Cold Storage. This state-of-the-art facility includes a 217,500 sf -10°F freezer, a 45,000 sf +35°F cooler, and 12,000 sf of office space. It also features 40,680 pallet positions, 9 ALTA refrigeration units, 28 dock positions, and a 494,000-gallon fire tank. Our #self-perform team installed the insulated metal panels and detailed the thermal envelope. Our design team successfully navigated not 1 but 2 different comprehensive design standards for the city and county due to a future annexing of the property. We also conducted thorough site due diligence, addressing geotechnical, environmental, surveying, and easement relocation needs. The project involved developing a greenfield site with bringing in new municipal utilities and onsite storm water control and retention ensuring seamless integration into the new facility. • Our team - along with representatives from United States Cold Storage, Gorton’s Seafood, the Mayor of Lebanon, IN, and the state Economic Development Department - proudly participated in a column-raising ceremony for a 117,200 sf expansion for Gorton's Seafood. This addition will feature a state-of-the-art fish production facility with five production lines, modern office spaces, a loading dock, and a 60-foot clear VNA freezer with automation at both ends to support and store production. By centralizing Gorton’s operations, this project will significantly reduce transportation costs, enhance overall efficiency, and expand the company’s freezer capacity. During preconstruction, our VDC team utilized cutting-edge technology to create a virtual reality model of the facility to immerse the client into their future space, facilitating enhanced collaboration and accelerating the decision-making process during design reviews. Stay tuned for more construction updates on this expansion project! Gorton's | United States Cold Storage, Inc.

  • At our Gorton's project in Lebanon, IN, we took their engineering team on an immersive virtual reality tour of the facility courtesy of our in-house #VDC team. Each engineer had the opportunity to navigate through the virtual model and helped to identify design improvement opportunities for the project. Implementing virtual reality technology provides enhanced collaboration and increases the speed of the decision-making process among stakeholders, especially during the design review, as they immerse themselves in the detailed, 3D representation of their project. Gorton's

  • We recently installed insulated metal panels at our 53,000 sf expansion project for Vanee Foods in Broadview, IL. A self-performed trade, we utilized an innovative approach using a suction cup technique to place the panels, followed by a telehandler for precise positioning - this strategy allowed us to complete the installation in just seven working days. This method is at the forefront of our industry, showcasing our commitment to innovation and improvement. As we integrate new technologies and techniques, our teams are ready to deliver exceptional results, raising the bar for quality and efficiency in every project we undertake. The project is slated for completion this Fall, stay tuned for updates! #VaneeFoods  Vanee Foods Company

  • Project update at Karis Cold Storage in Rock Hill, SC! This 270,000 sf freezer distribution warehouse has made rapid progress over the last six months. Now, building structure and envelope are complete, concrete slabs poured, and our #selfperform insulated metal panel crews nearly finished with detailing. Interior walls have gone up in office and support areas, lighting and mechanical systems are being installed, and finish work has begun with ceilings and preparation for painting. Slated for completion this May, our United Insulated Structures team is approaching the home stretch!

  • Project update! Our design+build cold storage facility project in Lowell, IN, with long term client United States Cold Storage, is making significant construction progress. All underground exterior utilities are now in place, and the concrete and asphalt paving for site work is complete. We have installed exterior conduits for electricity, with next steps in light pole assembly. We will also be self-performing the insulated metal panels in the upcoming weeks. The project is slated to be completed at the end of 2024 and anticipates Gold LEED Status. #designbuild #coldstorage United States Cold Storage, Inc.
