“The Biggest Little Mill in the Country” The fifth installment of our centennial history series continues with the company’s history between the years of 1956 through 1969. In 1956, Ulbrich improved business by revamping the hiring process and retaining skilled workers to ensure the Annealing Department operated 24/7. In 1960, the recession hurt business, so Ulbrich hired a direct salesforce, enabling us to interface directly with customers and bypass brokers and middlemen. To compete nationally, we entered new territories, increasing sales significantly and eventually engaging in a major project for the U.S. Air Force's B-70 Bomber. In 1969, our advanced metal milling capabilities attracted aerospace customers involved in the space race, culminating in their materials being used in the Apollo 11 mission. Despite being a lesser-known supplier, Ulbrich's contributions to space exploration and their expansion into new product lines like stainless steel wire propelled the company's growth, establishing us as a key player in precision re-rolling and specialty metals. https://lnkd.in/et27bzAk #ulbrich100 #ulbrichcentennialcelebration #100yearsinbusiness #centennialanniversary

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Media Contact: Kerrie Rushton, (202) 365-6338 June 5, 2024, Rolling Meadows, Ill. – MSCI concluded its 2024 Annual Meeting yesterday. The event was an opportunity for industrial metals service center and mill leaders to come together to discuss specific challenges facing the sector, including a potential carbon border adjustment mechanism, domestic and geopolitics that will shape the metals landscape in 2024 and beyond. “The industrial metals sector is a legacy industry revolutionizing how it operates,” said MSCI President and CEO M. Robert Weidner, III. “Our member companies are working every day to innovate to reduce their carbon footprint, provide safe workplaces, and boost the number of good jobs they provide in the communities they serve. Last year was a record year for MSCI in terms of engagement in and with our thought leadership webinars, industry intelligence products, scholarship programs, and educational tools. We are humbled to be partners to these incredible companies as they navigate the North American industry toward a better tomorrow.” The 2024 Annual Meeting marks the mid-point of Russel Metals Director, President, and CEO John G. Reid’s two-year term as MSCI board chair. Reid is leading MSCI and its member companies on a journey to transform the industrial metals sector into a zero harm environment. He has worked with MSCI staff to redesign the institute’s Safety Survey — results of which will be released later this summer — and is working with MSCI to reimagine its annual Safety Summit, set for this October. “Ensuring the safety of every industrial metals employee is part of the legacy we, as executives, will leave behind, which is why promoting a ‘safety always’ culture is at the heart of MSCI’s mission,” said Reid. “Our goal is to inspire, support, and enable our metals industry members to continuously improve the safety and health performance of the entire metals industry and achieve excellence in safety and health.” Kloeckner Metals - Americas CEO John Ganem and Reliance President and CEO Karla R. Lewis remain in place as board vice chairs, as will all current directors at large. Ryerson Executive VP and CFO Jim Claussen and Samuel, Son & Co. President of Service Centers Anthony Chiesa were elected to two-year terms. MSCI also bestowed its highest servant leadership awards on two individuals: - The late Frederick Christian Ulbrich, Sr., founder of Ulbrich Stainless Steels & Special Metals, Inc. received MSCI’s Lifetime Achievement Award, which is given to visionary leaders who look over the horizon to see what is coming. Frederick’s grandson, Chris Ulbrich, the current CEO of the company, accepted the award. - Peterson Aluminum VP of Sales and Marketing Mike Weis received the Jack Malec Chapter Leadership Award, which honors an MSCI volunteer chapter leader for their dedication, knowledge, time and leadership to the industry. #industrialmetals #MetalMatters
