The Johor River basin is a critical freshwater source for the state but faces pollution risks and climate impacts. At the end of a 5-year Global Challenges Research Fund Water Hub project on integrated river basin management, Deputy High Commissioner David Wallace congratulated project leaders from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia, Newcastle University School of Engineering and Newcastle University Medical School Malaysia on their research partnership to improve water security in Malaysia. This transdisciplinary project supported by UK science funding has brought together research teams across the UK, Malaysia, Colombia, Ethiopia and India to better understand water systems and progress towards achieving SDG6. Our Diversity, Equity, and Inclusivity (#DEI) Network recently convened to discuss our focuses for the year. Led by Chair Natasha Zulkifli from YTL Construction, we concluded that our direction would lie in raising awareness, organising conferences and talks, and spotlighting DEI champions in the areas of multi-generational talent and neurodiversity. I chair the British Malaysian Chamber of Commerce (BMCC) Diversity, Equity & Inclusivity (DEI) Network. This is a group picture of us after the meeting today. Most times folks focus on gender and they think that encapsulates DEI. But DEI is more than that. This year we decided the BMCC DEI Network would focus on multi-generational talent and neurodiversity. We are focussing on raising more awareness on social media, organising conferences and talks that share human stories and we want to shine a light on DEI champions. I’m so impressed when I hear about what different companies are doing in the DEI space and at YTL Construction I’ve worked hard for the last five years to push this agenda to the forefront. There’s so much we can learn from one another and there’s definitely more we can do to make our staff feel safe, valued and an important member of the team. But I believe we also need to walk the talk and ensure that as parents, at home, we must inculcate the respect and awareness about the importance of diversity, equity and inclusivity. We need to raise our daughters to believe they’re worthy of a seat at the table and our sons to ensure that there are an equal number of both women and men at the table. #diversity #equity #inclusion

We recently partnered with PwC Malaysia and UK in Malaysia for an insightful workshop on modern slavery and forced labour, led by Malar Odayappan. Key discussions included: the importance of proactive supply chain due diligence, the impact of government policies and rebranding on retaining local talent and the severe consequences of non-compliance with employment regulations. We also explored effective grievance mechanisms to support corporate standards. Let's continue to work together to address and mitigate modern slavery in our supply chains. bp | Port of Tanjung Pelepas | Sime Darby Property | Weir Minerals | ACCA | JLL (Malaysia) | S P Setia #talent #modernslavery #ethics #yourmsiabizpartner
