About us

For 15 years, the UFW Foundation has mobilized farm workers and their organizations across the country to advocate for more equitable policies, such as immigration reform, pesticide protections, heat standards, hazard pay, and other worker protections. We engage constituents in systemic change to break the cycle of poverty while also providing critical services. In fact, the UFW Foundation is the largest federally accredited immigration legal service provider in the state of California. The organization has staff in California, Washington, Arizona, Michigan, Washington D.C. and will be expanding to Georgia.

NEW POLLING: 9 in 10 Voters Support Federal Heat Rule. ✅ “Diego Iñiguez-López, government affairs director for the UFW Foundation, said the organization, which advocates for United Farm Workers members and farmworkers in general, is “incredibly encouraged by the proposed rules.” “We know that it will save lives, that it affirms the need for basic safety and recognizes the dignity of farmworkers … based on effective state regulations that were written in the blood of farmworkers” from extreme heat, he said. Between 2018 and 2022, more than half of the 168 farmworkers who died on the job in California alone did so in temperatures above 80 degrees, according to a 2023 review by Inside Climate News.” Join us in advocating for heat protections for farm workers this year. #CALOR https://lnkd.in/gj8c5J9s

“I have heard co-workers be unfairly disciplined at work because they were complaining about the long hours and yelling of the supervisors. They were told to leave if they didn’t like it. I looked at my daughter and signaled to keep quiet because we would also lose our jobs” — Anonymous farm worker who has worked in agriculture for 20 years. This is why we need the Department of Homeland Security to finalize its rules to protect farm workers. #ProtectFarmWorkers

We won Department of Labor protections! Now let’s win Department of Homeland Security farm worker protections. We at the UFW Foundation are advocating for protections in the Department of Homeland Security. These protections include: - Easing H-2 workers’ ability to seek new H-2 employment, including a 60-day grace period to allow H-2 workers to seek new jobs and retain their H-2 status when leaving an abusive employer; - Strengthening prohibitions and enforcement against retaliation, mistreatment, and recruiter fees, including making it more difficult for abusive employers to hire H-2 workers in the future; and - Workers who apply for permanent residency (or ‘green card’) would not automatically lose their H-2 status. We’ve won protections for workers before, and we will do it again. Help us by sharing this post! Sí Se Puede!
