Aiming at reducing the risk of heart disease—the leading cause of death for children with kidney failure—Dr. Marsha Lee, director of the pediatric dialysis program at UCSF Benioff Children's Hospitals, and Audrey Busch Anaya, MSN, RN, CNN, the program's clinical nurse supervisor, led efforts to implement new national standards for blood pressure measurements during dialysis.

Alex Drinnan and Stephen Rowse to promote inclusivity and support LGBTQ+ healthcare workers at UCSF Benioff Children's Hospitals Oakland. From advocating for gender-neutral facilities to organizing participation in events like the Oakland Pride parade, Dr. Drinnan and Dr. Rowse are leading efforts to ensure visibility and acceptance. Following a bone marrow transplant, a lifesaving but grueling procedure, nearly half of children develop dangerous lung infections. But new research from Matt Zinter shows that that children with more balanced lung microbiomes – the community of microbes living there – are at less risk. Some infections were caused by unusual culprits that are hard to find with traditional methods. These findings, using next generation sequencing, point the way toward better treatments and outcomes for transplant patients. https://bit.ly/4b9flG9
