Last month, Twiddy & Company joined forces with Connected Commerce Council (3C), Advertiser Perceptions, and business owners LaKita Anderson and Jeff Taxdahl to host a staff briefing on Capitol Hill. The briefing presented a new report on the importance of digital advertising and the potential dangers of overregulating data. In addition to the briefing, Twiddy & Company participated in a private media dinner and met with our elected officials from our district in North Carolina. These engagements provided valuable opportunities to discuss the concerns of small businesses regarding the American Privacy Rights Act (APRA). The House Energy and Commerce Committee, chaired by Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers and Ranking Member Frank Pallone, was set to vote on APRA. The bill could significantly impact small businesses by making it harder and more expensive to communicate with customers and advertise online. The vote was canceled at the last minute due to concerns about its effects on small businesses. Twiddy & Company's participation highlights our ongoing commitment to advocating for policies that support small businesses and ensure they can continue to thrive in a digital economy.

The latest Fed's Beige Book reports little change for tourism and hospitality in our region, with expectations remaining steady but not at 2021 or 2022 levels. Notably, Charlotte airport saw a 21% increase in Memorial Day passenger traffic, potentially shifting some previous driving tourists to air travel. This trend underscores the unique resilience and challenges of the Outer Banks as a primarily drive-to destination. Read more about how our visitor economy might navigate these evolving dynamics.

In March 2020, Twiddy & Company faced many of the same challenges business across the Outer Banks encountered due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Despite the chaos, the leadership at Twiddy & Company focused on maintaining trust with homeowners, guests, and employees. In the latest episode of "Cold Call," a Harvard Business School podcast, Professor Sandra Sucher discusses how Twiddy & Company navigated these challenges. Thank you, Professor Sucher and Harvard Business School, for this opportunity.
In March 2020, Twiddy & Company, a family-owned vacation rental company known for hospitality rooted in personal interactions, needed to adjust to contactless, remote customer service. With the upcoming vacation season thrown into chaos by the COVID-19 pandemic, president Clark Twiddy had a responsibility to the company’s network of homeowners who rented their homes through the company, to guests who had booked vacations, and to employees who had been recruited by Twiddy’s reputation for treating staff well. Who, if anyone, could he afford to make whole and keep happy? On the latest episode of Cold Call, Professor Sandra Sucher discusses how Twiddy leaned into trust to weather the pandemic in her case “Twiddy & Company: Trust in a Chaotic Environment.” https://lnkd.in/eTSfWpuU
