Thriving people. Healthy relationships. Peaceful communities.

About us

Tubman is a multi-service agency with over 45 years of experience providing family crisis and support services, formed from the merger of Chrysalis, A Center for Women; Harriet Tubman Center; Family Violence Network; and ElderCare Rights Alliance. Our philosophy is rooted in our namesake and inspiration, Harriet Tubman. Facing unrelenting adversities, she advised others to simply, "Keep going..." Each year Tubman delivers accessible and effective services to about 17,000 people of all ages, gender identities, and cultural backgrounds who have experienced relationship violence, trafficking, homelessness, mental and chemical health challenges, and other trauma. Built on a history of innovation, efficiency, and partnerships, Tubman offers countless ways to help. We provide safe shelter and housing, legal services, mental and chemical health counseling, youth programs, violence prevention, wrap-around services, and community education.

Break out the good tuna and keep all your fragile items off the ledge because it's International Cat Day! 🐱 🐈 Today we're featuring the fierce, four-legged friends of our Tubman staff! Tubman staff love their pets, and we can't think of a better way to honor our furry family members than by opening the Twin Cities' first pet-friendly domestic violence shelter, Harriet's Haven for Pets! Last month we broke ground at our Maplewood location and can't wait for construction to begin so people seeking safe shelter won't have to make the choice to leave their pet behind. Learn more about Harriet's Haven and make a donation in honor of your favorite feline at https://lnkd.in/gR9-7C7s! 🐾

Happy Monday! We want to give a special thanks to UnitedHealthcare of Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota, for Tubman’s Movement for Violence Prevention program in middle schools and high schools across the Twin Cities Metro. Our Movement for Violence Prevention program, or MVP, helps youth organize around violence prevention and healthy relationships. In 2023, more than 3,700 students participated in MVP's in-school curriculum or attended a presentation on healthy relationships or violence prevention. Thanks United Healthcare for helping us continue this amazing program!

August 1 marked the beginning of the 31st annual Minnesota Fringe Festival! Opening the festival, yesterday, was "Looking for Justice (in all the wrong places)," a show written and performed by Amy Oppenheimer. "Looking for Justice" is a compelling narrative that follows the Oppenheimer's personal journey from a 19-year-old college dropout searching for identity to becoming a lawyer and eventually a judge. The show explores critical issues of sexual and racial justice, inspired by the performer's experience of accompanying a friend to a rape trial in 1970. Running through August 11, proceeds of "Looking to Justice" performances will be donated to Tubman! Visit minnesotafringe.org to learn more and purchase tickets.

As parents, friends, mentors, and community members, we may find ourselves encouraging the young people in our lives to work hard, go after their dreams, stay positive and design the life they want. What we often lack are strategies to support them in doing that, and the understanding that not every person is supplied with the same resources to do so. Enter "The 5Cs of Positive Youth Development" (plus a bonus C that was added in 2007). This model of positive youth development goes beyond the focus of individual strength development. It also supports meaningful connection and communication between young people and their social-community resources, further creating impactful relationships within their community. Read on a learn more about how you can support the youth and young people in your life. You can also help support the youth and young adults that Tubman serves by donating to the NorthStar Youth Outreach Center this month: https://heyor.ca/N9yPB5

Thank you longtime volunteer and now board member Veronika Lantseva for sharing her story and why Harriet's Haven for Pets means so much. Check out her interview, here, and to support Harriet's Haven and learn more, visit https://lnkd.in/gR9-7C7s. "'It's going to be a game changer,' said Lantseva. 'Often times, for survivors, they have to make that impossible choice between staying in a home where they're not safe, and leaving their pet behind with their abuser who could hurt their pet when they realize they're gone.'" https://bit.ly/3Way0Mf
