Inspiring stories about the National Mall, our History, Heroes & Hope Awards, AND a surprise concert from honoree Dave Grohl before a sold out crowd – it was all happening at BALL for THE MALL!    Our marquee BALL for THE MALL gala brought together our longtime generous benefactors, members of Congress, new supporters and corporate partners all in support of our work with the National Park Service on America’s Front Yard.      The crowd was moved to hear the special connections each of our History, Heroes & Hope honorees shares with America’s Front Yard.  George C. Wolfe told the story of filming Netflix’s "RUSTIN" film on the National Mall telling the story behind the March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom. Elizabeth Alexander shared that she attended the March in 1963 as a young child and the honor of seeing Beyond Granite come to fruition as leader of Mellon Foundation. Dave Grohl told of his rock n’ roll awakening at the base of the Lincoln Memorial! Each of our honorees reminded us of the special role of the National Mall in our nation as America’s Civic Stage.    It was a testament to how special this treasured space is to visitors who come far and wide to experience all the National Mall and its historic purpose. As the official partners of the National Park Service on the National Mall, our mission to preserve, enrich, and elevate this space takes on new and pressing meaning. As we approach America’s 250th anniversary coming in 2026, the National Mall will play center stage. To learn more and find out how to support our work inspired by 2026 go to: https://lnkd.in/eBj-kESm   P.S. Stay tuned to hear how you can win Dave Grohl’s signed guitar from BALL for THE MALL!

  • What a year! We have welcomed more than 40,000 visitors to the newest destination on the National Mall—the Wells Fargo Education Center at the U.S. Park Police Horse Stables.     This month, we celebrated the one-year anniversary of the U.S. Park Police Horse Stables and Education Center with a special Mounted Unit meet-and-greet. Visitors toured the Education Center, had the opportunity to pet the horses, enjoyed special cookies and even signed a birthday card for the horses! Last summer, we cut the ribbon to open the newly rebuilt stables and welcomed the horses and their officers to their new, state-of-the-art home—a project that was designed and built by the Trust for the National Mall, thanks to its generous benefactors.     Importantly, the project created a brand-new Education Center where visitors come to learn about the historic Mounted Unit and its history on the National Mall. This new educational opportunity was made possible through the leadership support of our long-time partners at Wells Fargo, Campaign Chair Sheila Johnson, and many other generous supporters.    Plan your visit to the Education Center and see photo highlights by going here: https://lnkd.in/ePHhxk9j

  • Our neighbors at the Smithsonian Institution bring this year’s Folklife Festival to the National Mall from June 26 - July 1! This year's theme will uplift Indigenous voices and mark the 20th anniversary of the National Museum of the American Indian.    Through the theme “Indigenous Voices of the Americas: Celebrating the National Museum of the American Indian,” the festival will focus on the living traditions of Indigenous peoples and feature public performances, artist demonstrations, explorations of traditional foods and more! The Trust is honored to work with the Smithsonian Institution on the National Mall to share the stories that make up the fabric of our great American tapestry.   To learn more, check out special National Park Service companion programming exploring Native American history on the National Mall.
