Parent Engagement Facilitator Nicole Magesis and North Shore Academy Elementary Instructional Coach Rachel Mutter-McKeon pulled together five parent tips for reading at home and letting kids lead. Enjoy summer reading together! Tip 1: Kids learn the ability to read and write from being read to and reading to themselves. Tip 2: Everyone CAN Read! Reading can be looking at pictures and making up a story. Tip 3: Discover and build on interests! Tip 4: Every text counts: magazines, graphic novels, wordless picture books, audiobooks and more! Tip 5: Make reading a game or family event: reading bingo, visit the library library or create a sign scavenger hunt.

We are Highland Park. Our caring thoughts are with all that were impacted and continue to be impacted by the tragic events that occurred two years ago. Once again, the City of Highland Park has thoughtfully structured events to celebrate our country’s independence as well as honor those lives lost. Community members are encouraged to join in the events in the way that is most comfortable and meaningful for them. For more information and a schedule of events, visit their website: https://lnkd.in/gQxXuZKH Also, TrueNorth and the city both continue to provide trauma-informed resources for anyone in need. Find more information and resources specific to the city of Highland Park on the city website: https://lnkd.in/gA2QjTgK . TrueNorth will always seek to ensure that the unique needs of our students, staff and families are met.
