We are looking at another great week here in Portland, ME as the heart of the fishing season in the Gulf of Maine rolls on. Landings are starting to increase slightly, as the catch recovers from the super-moon event over the past couple weeks. While it looks beautiful illuminating the night sky, it can have a dramatic effect on tides and overall fish movement, often reducing the fleets catch for a short period of time.  After strong landings yesterday, harvesters have been readying their vessels and their crew for more trips over the next few days. This long stretch of good weather has allowed captains to keep trips short and consistent, ensuring small soaks/tows on gear that allow for incredible quality.  This week we are expecting landings from a diverse mix of boats covering all different gear types, including trawlers, gillnetters, and hook vessels. This mix of gear types will likely continue the trend we have been seeing in landings: • Heavy monkfish landings, with a mix of large and small monk tails, as the gillnet fleet continues to target this species • Moderate hake landings, with mostly large fish • Heavy flatfish landings, primarily American Plaice and Grey Sole, with an emphasis on small and medium fish. Trawlers have continued to see their flat catch increasing, a trend that has been building over the past few years   • Moderate haddock landings, with an emphasis on scrods sizing • Routine landings on halibut, coming from both gillnet and trawl vessels.  • Pollock continue to remain limited, while we wait for them to move into the fishing grounds
