We are thrilled to announce that Michel Gravel, O.N.M., a dedicated Tremco employee hailing from Ottawa, has been honored with a Knighthood within the National Order of Merit by the President of France. This recognition is for his invaluable research, outreach, and education in France, relating to First World War history. Michel’s work has also been mentioned recently during a sitting of the Canadian Parliament. Among his distinguished peers in this prestigious recognition are Queen Camilla of the UK, Queens Sofia and Letizia of Spain, Empress Michiko of Japan, Queen Sonja of Norway, Queen Silvia of Sweden, as well as former French Presidents François Mitterrand, just to name a few. Charles De Gaulle was the Order’s first Grandmaster. In his spare time, Michel has published six books on the First World War since 2006, five of which are in French. His first French book is a non-fiction classic in France and inspired the locals to rename the French highway D939, between the cities of Arras and Cambrai, ‘Canada’s Highway of Heroes’. Michel travels to France every year since 2003 to do research on ‘his’ battlefield, and to run informal tours for the locals. Michel has been with Tremco since 1995 and is currently an Architectural Representative in Ottawa, but also works occasionally across the Ottawa River in Gatineau, Québec. Before that, he was with Stonhard for two years.
