The Char Dham Yatra is a pilgrimage to the four sacred temples – Yamunotri, Gangotri, Kedarnath & Badrinath. As a trekker, I had the opportunity to visit Gangotri & Kedarnath. The treks while being scenic, have their share of challenges. For the treks, I have had to train for over 3 to 4 months. Another important factor is “acclimatisation” - this most critical factor can be a life saver, which most people neglect. Recently, I lost a cousin at Gangotri. Such a wonderful & friendly person, who touched many lives. Did not deserve to depart so early in life. She visited Yamunotri the previous day & reached Gangotri on the day 2. Had breakfast and was gone the next minute !!!  The news came as a shock to all of us. This post is to make my friends aware of the perils of Char Dhaam Yatra or even about vacations in the hills. Please prepare your body for those few days to be memorable rather than miserable. As per my understanding - two important factors that impact us while on the hills - low oxygen levels / higher heart rate. These are related – low oxygen in the atmosphere makes our heart to beat faster so as to supply more oxygen to the brain to function well. The awareness of symptoms of Accute Mountain Sickness (AMS) becomes crucial factor in saving life. Please click here to read more about Mountain Sickness and how to avoid / manage it better - https://lnkd.in/gkq5F8th Over the last few days, did some search on the number of deaths while people are on Char Dham yatra. I realised that the death rate is about 5% to 8% per lack of pilgrims undertaking the yatra. As per some articles, the death toll has already reached around 300, so far. While we cannot avoid death, may be few deaths can be avoided with knowledge and preparations. While overall fitness is important, if you can focus on these three aspects, it may be help you improve your experience.  - Walk / Jogging / Cycling – Ensure that you start practicing this foe at least a few weeks before your travel. - Strengthen your legs – Focus on legs – then will have to carry you for the duration of your walk. Knees / calf muscles will come under maximum stress. - Back / Lower back – a strong back / lower back is crucial to have a good trek experience. Please do consult a doctor and he can prescribe medicines which can help improve oxygen levels in the blood. In addition to all these you can carry your own oxygen canisters (at least a couple of them for emergency situations). Despite all the preparations, weather situation can swing from good to bad in a few minutes. Learn to surrender and come back. Challenging the weather can be a bad decision. If you surrender this once, you can survive to go back once again. Hills have been there and will be there for years to come. You have one life - come back and try again next year. There is no shame in accepting defeat here. Stay safe and make memories while on the hills.  Har Har Mahadev

One Year : Small steps It's been a whirlwind year!   A tentative start – bagged 4 diverse assignments from MSMEs to start-ups to early stage entrepreneurs. Working on a few more prospects to make it a successful year. Assignment 1 - IT Consulting for an architectural firm Assignment 2 - MSME - Business Process Outsourcing, Process Design & Cost Optimsation Assignment 3 - e-commerce setup for an early stage entrepreneur  Assignment 4 – MSME - Process Consulting to set up Professional Services Unit Early Wins: Earning trust of the first few customers is a challenge. Hopefully these projects will lead to positive word of mouth and some solid recommendations too. The Learning Curve: Identifying ideal clients is key. This year provided valuable insights into who we can work best with and the types of projects that align with our strengths. Power of network: Old friends & connections stood by us firmly and participated to fill in the gaps in our offerings. This will be a critical piece for us to grow the range of services. Building a Brand: Establishing a strong brand identity takes time. The next couple of years will be crucial for us - focused on clarifying our core values, expertise, and target market. Looking Ahead: Year two promises to be even more exciting. Armed with a year’s learnings, we are better positioned to target the right kind of customers who value the domain knowledge we bring to the table.

After an eventful 30+ years of corporate life, finally called it a day on 15-Jun-23. It was a hard thought of decision - over nearly three years and a difficult one at that. Moving from the comforts of a corporate career and venturing into the unknown was unnerving at times. But with the decision taken, I am super exited with this new phase of my life and share my knowledge and experience. The first few weeks had me shaken as the void set in. After spending long hours at work, office was an extension of me. Not going to office was an alien idea till that day. I missed my team, colleagues - my extended family. Or as my family members put it - they were my family - often at the cost of neglecting my wife and kids. For a few days I got ready to go nowhere :-) Mom, wife, kids and family members were extremely supportive in the transition and ensured that I never got into negative thoughts. Ever grateful for the support from them. It is about a year now and the learnings have been immense. The eco-system has many opportunities, one must just be open to explore options before settling into a stream of choice. That is, unless you make a move with a plan in mind :-) Today, I am happy that I work at my pace and support a few MSMEs and Start-ups. My experience helps them improve their operational processes, KPIs and costs. My circle of friends stood by me and supported me in the last few months - rooting for me. They pitch in for some of my consulting assignments to fill in the gaps. Trayom Consultants & Services (Manipal / Udupi) - Physical office in Manipal. Objective - Off Shore work from MSMEs & Start ups from Metro’s to Manipal / Udupi with a purpose to control migration of youngsters from the hinterland to the metros and also help organisations to reduce their cost. Have made a humble start with one project and looking forward to growing this setup multifold.
