We are so grateful for July guest storyteller Cecily Mitchell-Harper, LMSW-SIFI, for her insights on the profound and often overlooked effects of racial trauma experienced by black women in our newest blog, “Black Women’s Wellbeing Matters: Healing the Soul Wound of Racial Trauma.” An important part of becoming trauma-informed is being aware and accommodating to the trauma of others that we ourselves may not experience. We greatly appreciate learning the perspectives of others as we continue to grow the network. Learn more about Cecily’s reflections and healing journey below. ⬇️ #traumainformedcare #mentalhealth #blackmentalhealth #blackmentalhealthmatters

It’s time to register for our next quarterly network meeting! This is a great opportunity for New Yorkers to connect with others and learn more about trauma-informed care. Debra Cady of Silver Linings International said, "The Quarterly meeting was such a fantastic experience. I was particularly impressed with how it was facilitated, incorporating trauma-informed principles so seamlessly. It made me feel right at home, and I could tell that everyone else felt the same. In honor of Juneteenth this week, we’d like to share these helpful resources from The Trevor Project to help further conversations about race and identity. Learn more from the “Black & LGBTQ+: Approaching Intersectional Conversations” guide below! #pride #lgbtq #intersectionality
This Juneteenth, we recognize that Black and BIPOC LGBTQ+ young people carry an unfair burden of having to explain their identities. These difficult conversations often force Black queer and trans youth to have hard discussions on race, queer identities, or the intersection of both. We know that intersectional conversations can take a variety of forms. Some are engaging white friends for the first time about how being BIPOC impacts their experience in LGBTQ+ spaces, while others are opening up about the nuances of their queer experiences in BIPOC communities. For folks who hold multiple marginalized identities, it can sometimes feel overwhelming to explore the layers of these conversations with others — especially those whose lived experiences are different. We created this guide “Black & LGBTQ+: Approaching Intersectional Conversations” as a resource for folks looking to expand their conversations and have meaningful dialogues about race and identity. Check out the full guide below ⬇️🧡 https://lnkd.in/gXwuRxJR #Juneteenth #TrevorProject #LGBTQ #Solidarity #Intersectionality
