We have another round of earnings this week, but things should be a bit more quiet with most of the exciting mega-cap and tech names already out of the way. Here’s what’s on deck this week… On the economic news front, we have three big inflation reports with the Producer Price Index coming at 8:30 a.m. ET on Tuesday, followed by the Consumer Price Index at the same time on Wednesday. According to Stock Trader’s Almanac, Santa has so far failed to rally this new year with new beginnings. The conclusion is important coming off a historical run higher in the indices since the end of October. This is the first of three indicators used in the almanac in January to gauge current year strength. I hate to say it, but it feels like the writing is on the wall. After a fairy tale nine-week rally, it could be coming to an end. FOMO is fading. And the Federal Reserve’s latest minutes now lead us to a jobs report and economic data that may show further erosion in the economy.
