About us

Total Manufacturing Company Established 1974 in Lincoln, Nebraska, where it still operates today, Total Manufacturing Company specializes in one-stop, concept-to-completion metal manufacturing services. TMCO can finish a product from any stage be it design, fabrication, paint, assembly—or if you wish, the whole ball of wax. Whether a small quantity or a huge manufacturing run, TMCO treats all of its customers with the same reverence. “We hope that we exceed our clients’ expectations every time,” says owner and founder, Roland Temme. In addition Temme says, “It’s a partnership deal because we’re looking to build long-term customer relationships.” That partnership could have a major impact on your design. Just ask Tim Thomssen about a little project that came across his desk several years back. The concept was one farmer’s idea for a useful machine. That machine was a forced air unit used to dry wet cows—essentially a cow dryer (this is Nebraska, folks). Lo and behold through their combined teamwork a design was born and production began on a truly unique item. Not only did TMCO make it possible, they streamlined manufacturing to the fewest steps saving their customer substantial money and time. That product proved so successful, to this day some 10,000 units have been manufactured and shipped from TMCO. That story isn’t unusual in a shop that cultivates the greatest potential from their staff. When you hire the best people, give them the best machines, it’s almost impossible to fail. The proof is in the pudding. Since its inception TMCO has quadrupled in size and will most likely double in the next five years. Couple that with its low turnover and high employee loyalty and it’s no wonder TMCO is flourishing today. Take the tour and learn for yourself why in the age of outsourcing and impersonal service, TMCO holds on tight to the values that have made it a powerhouse in the metal fabrication business.

Now nearly 20 years old, the Rotary Dome Pavilion in the Sunken Gardens has become an iconic Lincoln landmark. Our team laser cut, bent, and powder coated these panels while working closely with designer Jeff Chadwick, AIA, LEED AP, of Clark & Enersen, to perfect this piece that tells the story of the four seasons. Jeff provided us insights into what makes the Rotary Dome Pavilion so unique. Four Seasons: "As you look up into the dome, you'll see due south is the heat of summer. Turn west and you're coming into fall with more dense foilage and leaf patterns, falling off east to west as the seasons change." Pleasant Surprise: "Originally, this space was supposed to be a picnic shelter, but when we walked into the site, we realized it could create a focal point for the entry. That's what has made it iconic - it's become an emblem of the garden itself." First, Not The Last: "This was our first partnership with TMCO, and it was incredible to see the scope of everything they could do. Over the past 20 years, we've worked with them on all kinds of projects."

Purchased in 1984, this SL-5 YASNAC vertical mill was the first of many Mori Seiki machines to enter our machine shop. Not only does it still function, but 40 years later, it's still producing parts whenever our larger machines have a full workload.

Interns at TMCO don’t just observe – they actively participate in real-life manufacturing. Two of our interns, Eric and Sawyer, shared a bit about their experiences thus far. Eric: "I learned all of the stages one piece of metal goes through to get to the end product, from laser and weld to powder coat and assembly. The internship was fun, helpful, and educational, and it helped me progress my knowledge in manufacturing and engineering." Sawyer: "I am definitely considering going into manufacturing. I really liked the atmosphere of engineering – they are very hands-on and spend time out on the production floor. They even know the names of everyone, which I thought was really cool."

Our punching services are one of the most cost-effective ways to finish parts. We do knockouts, tapping, small-edge forming, and chamfering, to name a few. Our advanced machines automate the punching process, allowing our teams to preload the parts and program specialized punch operations like slots, notches, or other complex patterns.

At the Immigration and Workforce Summit, our CEO, Diane Temme Stinton, joined statewide leaders to provide insights on retaining immigrant talent. It was a great chance to showcase how we develop an environment where people want to stay and build their lives.
