The first phase of The Whole Child’s “Homeless to Homeowner” campus in Santa Fe Springs is nearly complete! This footage shows just how far the Interim Housing and Support Services Center has come, with an expected completion date in fall of 2024. It also shows that the 100+ units of affordable housing being built by The Richman Group are nearing completion as well. The results of the 2024 LAHSA Homeless Count are now available and while it’s encouraging to see an overall decline in homelessness, the data shows that we still have much work to do for children and families in our region. Fortunately, this year’s numbers suggest that the county's coordinated emergency response is making a difference. The Whole Child is proud to be part of many key coordinated efforts; ensuring that families in our area are provided with comprehensive tools that lead to permanent housing and stability so that children in our programs can thrive. Notably, more people across the region are experiencing homelessness inside, where they are safer and where they have access to amenities such as those provided in our Downey Family Access Center: clean private showers, laundry facilities, computer labs, and kid-friendly play and study spaces. Watch for updates on the opening of our new Interim Housing and Support Services Center in Santa Fe Springs, which will provide short-term housing and amenities for dozens of families in our region!

A dedicated and proven leader, Frank brings over 20 years of nonprofit experience as well as strong connections to the Whittier community to our robust leadership team. Happy Juneteenth! This time-honored traditional observance began in Texas in the 19th century and is now recognized at the California and federal levels to mark the ultimate end of slavery in the United States. For four million newly freed African-Americans and for their descendants, Juneteenth was and is a time for celebration and hope. For the nation at large, this important holiday reminds us that freedom is not to be taken for granted; it is something to constantly strive towards as we identify and work against injustices that still exist today.
