On July 17, we hosted the second installment of Good Talks, a series of discussions putting scalable sustainability solutions into action. Held in partnership with the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) with support from the United Nations Fashion & Lifestyle Network, the event was attended by our peers in the fashion industry. Moderated by Theory’s SVP of Sustainability Wendy Waugh, the conversation focused on carbon emissions within the value chain—from capturing data on it, to measuring its impact, and reporting on our progress as an industry. Our panelists included President & CEO of Bowles Farming Company, Inc. Cannon Michael, CEO of Sensitive® Fabrics by Eurojersey Andrea Crespi, and Founder & CEO of Altruistiq Saif Hameed. Reflecting on a Successful Take A Child to Work Day On Thursday, May 2, Fast Retailing hosted our annual Take A Child to Work Day, one of the most anticipated days of the year for both parents and children. This year, the children had a great time exploring the world of fashion and learning about the artistry and innovation behind our brands. The day began with a tour of our NY Flagship Uniqlo store located in Soho, followed by breakfast and family portraits in our café. The children also got to experience the Design and Innovation Center, participate in a design craft activity, and receive a tour and demonstration in the fabric cutting room. We all enjoyed a delicious lunch on our roof while soaking in the sunshine. Remarked parent and Director of Employment Law and Legal, Okechi Ibeabuchi, “My children see me work hard, but they don’t really understand what I do or what the company does. Giving them the opportunity to experience the store setting, the design and visual teams allow them to explore new areas. My hope, even though they are only 5 and 6 years old, is that they are inspired to be creative and feel free to express themselves.” The day was filled with laughter, learning, and inspiration, laying the foundation for potential future leaders in fashion. Thank you to everyone who participated and helped make this day memorable!

On April 9th, Theory welcomed members of the New York fashion industry to its showroom in the Meatpacking District for the first Good Talk, The Future is Flax: Zero-Waste Innovations at the Forefront of Flax Farming. Good Talks, is a new on-going series of sustainability-focused talks in partnership with the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) with support from the United Nations Fashion and Lifestyle Network. Featuring global experts, the conversations will explore scalable solutions relating to traceability, innovation, circularity, and more within the fashion industry. The series aims to provide a forum for the New York fashion community to come together for an open and thoughtful dialogue about some of the biggest sustainability issues we all face. On Wednesday, Tonne Goodman, Sustainability Editor at Vogue, moderated the inaugural conversation, and panelists were Wendy Waugh, Theory’s SVP of Sustainability; La Rhea Pepper, co-founder of Textile Exchange; and Francesco Marini and Riccardo Marini, owners of Marini Industrie. Kerry Bannigan of the United Nations presented opening remarks while Steven Kolb, CEO of the CFDA, closed the event. The panelists emphasized a spirit of collective action, which they expressed is essential to create large-scale industry change. The conversation spurred dynamic dialogue regarding the importance of the deep connection between suppliers and brands, the role that brands play in making sustainable decisions, and how to support young businesses just entering the market in building sustainability best practices. The inaugural Good Talks created a space for the industry to come together and have an open, productive dialogue about sustainability and innovation, in this case pertaining to linen. This initiative is part of Theory for Good, Theory’s commitment to sustainable solutions for products, community advancement, and reducing impact on the planet. #GoodTalks #TheoryforGood

At Fast Retailing we strongly believe that offering childcare benefits empowers our employees to thrive both personally and professionally. We are proud to partner with Moms First and Boston Consulting Group (BCG) on a groundbreaking study that makes the economic case that supporting working mothers and parents is not just a matter of morals—it's an economic imperative. Serena Peck, our Chief Administrative Officer and General Counsel, joined Moms First, Boston Consulting Group, and other business leaders at the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation yesterday to discuss why we invest in this benefit and the important results of the study. We’re grateful to Reshma Saujani for her powerful leadership on this issue. Learn more about the results and read the report here: https://lnkd.in/g3-JXUvC
