Really interesting way to reframe the “toxic positivity” of social media. Humans are humans, we learn and grow from our failures. Otherwise we’d never find our way. Agree?
My 𝒂𝒏𝒕𝒊-𝒓𝒆𝒔𝒖𝒎𝒆📝👩🏻💻 a collection of failures, setbacks, and lessons... I think social media really twisted our sense of self worth (at least it did for me). We’re exposed to endless feeds of accolades, milestones, and highlights and our realities never measure in comparison. But then I learned about the "anti-resume". It reminds us that success is often built on a foundation of resilience. People like Adam Grant have actually spoken about keeping a running resume of their failures. RTO mandates drive out women and drive down productivity. It's not like we haven't had data saying this for four years, but now nearly 2/3rds of C-suite executives who imposed #ReturnToOffice mandates say it has led a disproportionate number of women to quit. "About the same share of executives told Upwork they’re struggling to fill those vacant roles—and more than half agree that their hemorrhaging of women employees tanked company productivity. 🚽 WHEN YOUR BOSS MANDATES A RTO FROM THE TOILET 🚽 From their own very special WFH throne location 😓 How many RTO Mandates instructions were sent remotely? Funny - not funny - not funny at all. Double standards abound in our new world, where those that are forcing employees back to urban offices are doing so from remote locations themselves. It is farcical It is so hypocritical It equals "do what I say, not what I do" It stinks of: one rule for me and a different one for everyone else It demonstrates a bias to fixed-office-locations, which could be linked to real-estate and urban centric interests and bias. 💪 Look for true Remote-First and flexible companies and opportunities 💪 Amplify the stories of those advocating for a better way of working, without a bias to concrete boxes, commuting and urban smog n fog 💪 Advocate everyday for fully remote work models and ways of operating, the old guard needs to change and get "flushed away" Who will join me? I am not commuting to an office ever again. 🔦 I did the commute for the first 8 years of my kids' lives. I missed pick-ups, events, tears, school plays, and skinned knees. 🤕🩹 I remember going to a work meeting just days after giving birth to my son through c-section. I remember deciding whether to get tubes in my infant son's ears because of the number of ear infections he got at daycare. I remember interviewing strangers to care for my young son once the decision was made to take him out of daycare to avoid ear surgery. I remember receiving a photo from my children's babysitter of my son's black eye from a fall that I wasn't there to prevent. I remember racing home from the office (60+ minute commute) after a call from my children's babysitter that she was accidentally locked in the bathroom and my toddler son was alone outside the door. I remember the babysitter sending me videos of my newly adopted daughter crying at the refrigerator door for food because she was deprived in foster care in her birth country, and I wasn't there to comfort her and help her through that moment. I remember my son banging on the glass storm door screaming "mama" as I pulled away every morning to work. I spent 30 years in corporate, most recently serving as COO. For so many years, I was a traditionalist who believed in following the rules, being subservient to business owners and CEOs, and doing what has always been done. Whatever your catalyst for change might be, mine occurred in 2019. 🌀 I understand company culture, the bottom line, and preserving/protecting a company's assets. I am fortunate to support a few organizations that EARN the 5 days in office they ask of their employees through security, flexibility, compassion, support, collaboration, and recognition. But MOST do not EARN those five days. But that doesn't mean that I'm not working my butt off every day to build a business to help people prepare for the future of work. And I hope this business becomes my legacy. I'm just doing it from home. I believe in innovation. I believe in the future. I believe in technology. I believe that companies will figure out how to hit their bottom-line goals and respect their employees' needs. I believe this is the future: Gen Z who prefer hybrid or remote: 84% Startups that are partially or fully remote: 58% Global companies that offer remote or hybrid work: 62% Silicon Valley based companies that are partially or fully remote: 70% Buckle up. The future is going to be a wild ride. 🚀🤘 ------- I am not a virtual work expert but I follow a few people who are.
