Earlier this week, the U.S. Department of State released the 2024 Trafficking in Persons Report, providing a comprehensive overview of the state of human trafficking around the world. The Report discusses how technology plays an important role in combating human trafficking and how it is being used to improve awareness and outreach efforts to support worker engagement and empowerment. We are proud to see Polaris’s Nonechka project mentioned in this section of the Report: “Through its Nonechka project, Polaris collaborated with technology partner Ulula on a platform that allows farmworkers in Mexico and now in the United States to share their experiences, including information on risky recruitment and employment processes. This information also helps Polaris formulate prevention strategies, as well as inform workers about their rights, wages, and working conditions and how to access general services locally including emergency, transitional, or long-term services.” Read more: https://lnkd.in/ehYbvfty

  • Worried about your messages being safe? Without taking proper security measures, no platform is truly secure for messaging. Why and How you can Protect Yourself: 🔒 What is E2EE? It means only you and the recipient(s) of the message can read and only access the message with a password. It's encrypted on your device and decrypted on theirs. When you send a message, it can be intercepted at various points—by hackers, governments, or even the messaging service itself. To ensure your privacy, look up the terms and conditions of that app’s end-to-end encryption (E2EE). Most apps do offer this encryption but only enacted when the system has certain settings. 🛡️ Tips for secure messaging: Always Use Apps with Caution! Enable Security Settings: Turn on additional security features like two-factor authentication, but do not rely on SMS methods since it is not encrypted. Avoid talking to unfamiliar profiles online and permanently block strangers. #StaySafeOnline #endhumantrafficking #theliberationproject

  • Polaris (formerly Polaris Project), “The Typology of Modern Slavery,” provides descriptions of different recruitment styles that emphasizes an great point. Human trafficking is hidden, silenced but ever so prevalent. Trafficker’s strategy and only goal is convince and promise through whatever means, like falsely advertising a legitimate business opportunity, to lure in the most unsuspecting. WHAT IS TARGETED: 💲In need of something of value. Things essential to survive: Money; shelter; documents for legal purposes. 🗣️ Language barriers. Those who have a lack of understanding on technology/common scams/tactics. 🚨 Fear of law enforcement being involved prevents most from seeking help. Or fear when reaching out to receive help that the traffickers will know and result in repercussions. • Thankfully a news story that highlights a useful tool we love here at the Liberation Project.  The National Human Trafficking Hotline created by Polaris (formerly Polaris Project).  1-888-373-7888  TTY: 711 Text* 233733 Please SHARE and save this as a contact! This is one of many successful tools, resources, and approaches towards anti-trafficking efforts in America. Anyone can call, text, email, and live chat (24/7) equipped with an operator in most native languages.  According to the official website, the hotline “has received 399,494 signals…has identified 82,301 cases of human trafficking…164,839 victims were identified,” the numbers are still counting to this day. Without the great use of time, effort and collective force driving this initiative, today’s story could of had an unfortunate alternative ending.  Source: National Human Trafficking Hotline Official Website. 🗞️ STORY:  Due to a great anti-trafficking project and bravery, police in Central Oregon were able to arrest and successfully support a victim of human trafficking through a tip made securely through the hotline.  After an arrest was made, the victim is being supported through finding secure housing, stability and the emotion turmoil of recovering. Stories like this push us to continue our efforts.  Now you can do your part: Know the resources and hotlines available and use them!  Source: Central Oregon Daily #anyonecanbeinvolvedinhumantrafficking #humantraffickingadvocate #Nationalhumantraffickinghotline #theliberationproject #supportsurvivors

  • We are reporting on #WWE‘s former CEO, Vince McMahon. Mr. McMahon is faced with a series of allegations from employees and contracted fighters regarding alleged human trafficking and related charges. Vince McMahon is a prime example of someone who may not necessarily look and act the part of someone allegedly participating in human trafficking. Story ⬇️ Janel Grant met Mr. McMahon after reaching out for employment. Mr. McMahon knew Ms. Grant needed income, stability, and a career when he first preyed on her. Mr. McMahon promised the employee everything they would want to hear, a job offer, a position promotion, a guaranteed salary increase, and the right connections. Ms. Grant refused to pay a price for these promised luxuries and confronted her alleged abuser. Mr. McMahon continuously lied and allegedly covered up trafficking Ms. Grant with those who participated, witnessed, and paid Ms. Grant to stay quiet according to the lawsuit. Victims of Mr. McMahon were forced to sign non-disclosure forms to receive payments. Vince McMahon has now resigned from his CEO position and since ceased financial compensation for Ms. Grant and the alleged other victims. Janel Grant’s lawsuit against Mr. McMahon has shocked media, however the alleged tactics to keep Grant’s truth from becoming a public issue is not shocking, it is actually common. • #SuperBowlWeekend is a reminder to stock up on chips, pigs in the blanket, and check the weather to barbecue. However, for those involved in human trafficking, we focus on the interesting cases of  increased activity before, during, and shortly after the American Football season.  Today, a study done in 2022 observing online advertisements shows consistent activity engaging with the ads, and even increased at times that corresponds with every major Football event.  Why? Simple answer will be people are seeking celebrations or coping mechanisms.  Some win money while betting on outcome of games and spend it the only way they see fit.  There really is no clear answer and studies linking the Super Bowl to human trafficking events just solidify theories.  What Matters: Human Trafficking Is Prevalent and Happening Right Now What Can You Do: Educate and Do Your Own Research. Continue to read studies, agree or disagree but observe what professionals are measuring and the meaning behind percentages.  Learn how to support and fund the organization you best align with.  Follow The Liberation Project and stay updated with resources, day to day news, and opportunities to participate in our own efforts.  Source: https://lnkd.in/ej7z_uz2 #antitrafficking #humantrafficking #endhumantrafficking #humantraffickingindicators #superbowlandhumantrafficking #liberationproject

  • We are presenting a common scenario of a child with a lack in proper supervision while waiting for the school bus. Without an authority figure present, children (and individuals susceptible to risk) perceived as alone will be seen by the wrong person and stalked.  When supervision is clearly present, harms way may not occur in that moment.  That matters. We need to be there for one another. Ways to See Someone Off To Destination Safely 🗣️Have those talks with loved ones and children. Have procedures, designated locations to meet, and plan key phrases. “I will stay here until someone I trust comes,” and, “I am not talking to you until someone I trust tells me too.” 🫂 Someone is aware of who you are with, where, and when you are expected to be back in a safe and secure place. Share your personal electronic’s location and items with GPS tags (for children). 🚏Watch as the individual(s) get to their form of transportation and ensure to notify when home. (If applicable, see to public transportation route). This demonstration is for educational purposes solely.
