Caregiving Tip Tuesday Angela, one of our seasoned caregivers from TheKey shares an invaluable tip from her many years of experience: Listen and Observe Before You Act 🤫👂 Working with dementia patients, Angela has mastered the art of deep listening and careful observation. She recounts an instance with an elderly man who wished to "go home" during the evenings, unsettled and agitated. With patience and a creative approach, she discovered that a soothing car ride could calm him down, even without knowing his full history at the time. 🚗💡 She understands the importance of truly hearing what care recipients are trying to communicate and seeing beyond the immediate behavior to find comforting solutions. Looking for ideas to help your clients stay independent as they age? Consider voice-activated devices. Voice-activated smart speakers can tell the time, set alarms, play music, and make phone calls. You can even connect them to other electronics in the home, like lights and thermostats. If your client is less mobile, they might appreciate using a voice command to turn the lights off before bed.
