  • Meet Mijo and Mija! 😻 When we had the good fortune of meeting these two cuties, their human mom was working hard toward her goal of moving them out of the shelter and into a place of their own. While she could live with and keep her furry family members in the shelter, they could not be unsupervised. This created a major problem. Since her pets could not be left unsupervised in the #shelter, she could not work enough hours to gather the funds she needed to start their next chapter and move into a place of their own. Thankfully, because of donations from compassionate people like you, The Arizona Pet Project could place her pets in short-term pet boarding! 🐾💙 We’re thrilled to share with you that within 1 week (!!!), she was able to work more hours and got several leads on apartments they could all move into…together! Keeping loving pet #families together—that’s what this is all about. Pets *are* family and the human-animal bond is essential for our mental and physical health. The data shows that caring for a pet gives people purpose! 70% of #Arizona residents are pet owners, and for those experiencing a crisis, our #pets provide us with the unconditional love and companionship that helps us see the light through our darkest days. Thank you for being a part of our community and ensuring there are resources out there that will keep people and their pets together! 🐾💙

  • 😻 This cutie pie is named Mira: she's one of the thousands of beloved cats you'll help this year through The Arizona Pet Project! Today, we want to share how our team was able to help Amaris and her cat, Mira. Thank you for your compassion in helping pet families in crisis! When forced to choose between caring for herself and her cat, Amaris always prioritizes her cat's comfort. Budgeting to stay within her means has been a way of life for as long as she can remember. As a senior, she lives on a fixed income. She regularly needs medical care herself and knows that unexpected costs come up occasionally. Throughout her life, Amaris has faced housing insecurity and even homelessness. She has seen much adversity but always has persevered! The problem now was that while Amaris lived on a fixed income, her sweet Mira started experiencing severe dental problems and needed expensive veterinary care at a time when there were no extra funds to get her the care she needed. But she wasn’t going to give up! She'd been in tight spots before and felt sure she could come up with a solution. But Amaris grew worried because, this time, her cat’s comfort was at stake, not her own. She would do anything and everything for her cat and had to find a way to get her cat the dental care she desperately needed. Thankfully, because of compassionate people like you who donate to The Arizona Pet Project, Amaris’ cat, Mira, received major dental surgery. After her surgery, Amari's peace of mind returned knowing her best friend was no longer feeling dental pain. 🐾 💙 Because of donations from caring folks like you, The Arizona Pet Project can support families facing hardship while caring for their pets. Thank you! The human-animal bond is an incredibly healing relationship, and like Amaris, so many of us rely on our pets for emotional support. Thank you for your commitment to supporting Arizona families and their pets when they need it most, just like Amaris and Mira!

  • Nerdy conversations about the intersection of housing affordability and pet care? I'm in! Join us on August 07 as we break down the connection between affordable housing supply and animal shelter intake and learn how you can support legislative initiatives that keep people housed and pets in homes.

  • Summer in Phoenix is hard. There's no hiding from the continual heat. So, imagine the panic of finding your family and pets without a home amidst the sweltering heat. Lost jobs, medical issues, and many other challenges can thrust anyone into a tough spot like this, just like Latoya's family. She and her husband were laid off on the same day when the company they both worked for was downsizing, leaving them in a very difficult situation. While trying to survive on $480 per week to support a family of four and their two dogs, Mega and Chino, they missed a rent payment. And, within 60 days of losing their jobs, they found themselves living in their van in 110-degree heat with their children, their dogs, and nowhere to go. The Arizona Pet Project CEO, Leanna Taylor, explains: “The sad reality is this isn’t a unique situation. These are individuals who were living paycheck to paycheck and overall doing fine. Then, a sudden change in circumstance throws their lives into chaos. Without supportive services, like our intervention program, this often means people are choosing between safe shelter or keeping their beloved pets. These impossible choices don't benefit anyone." Latoya's family's church purchased bus tickets for the family to travel back to New York, where they had some family who could help. But there was just one problem. The dogs were not allowed on the bus. Because of community donations to The Arizona Pet Project there was still hope to provide resources for Latoya's family, and there is *still hope* for countless other families who need support. With your donations, we placed Latoya's dogs in temporary boarding while the family traveled back to New York to settle in and we later flew them out, where their family was overjoyed for their reunion! With your help, together, we keep families together and safe from dangerous temperatures while getting back on their feet in hard times. 🐾💙 Thank you for preserving that love and keeping bonded families together!
