This legislative session, states across the U.S. passed legislation focused on reading instruction. + Kansas aims to strengthen teacher education programs by aligning them with evidence-based reading instruction practices. + California seeks additional funding to support all educators in implementing evidence-aligned practices and the California ELA/ELD Framework that encourages biliteracy and multilingualism. + Oklahoma plans to ban the three-cueing method from reading instruction and train educators in evidence-aligned practices. + Wisconsin sued its governor and Department of Public Instruction over the allocation of literacy funding and implementation of legislation passed last summer. + Maryland wants to prevent book bans in state-funded libraries and protect access to diverse reading materials.
