The Rayne Foundation today announces the retirement of the Honourable Robert Rayne who has been its Chairman for the last twenty years. Robbie, as he is known, joined the grantmaking Foundation’s board in 1977 and took over following the death of the founder, his father Max, Lord Rayne. Robbie has championed, inspired and mentored many charities and individuals in the UK, Israel and elsewhere and will continue to do so both personally and in his role as Chairman of the Rayne Trust, a smaller sister charity.
Robbie will be succeeded by Jeremy Sandelson, a senior business leader and a former partner at leading international law firm, Clifford Chance. He is a long-standing supporter of the creative arts and has played a major role in the governance of a number of prestigious arts institutions, serving previously on the Boards of the Royal College of Art, London Print Studio and Hampstead Theatre. He is currently Chair and Pro-Chancellor of the University for the Creative Arts (UCA) and a trustee of The Clore Duffield Foundation
Jeremy said:
‘I am delighted to have been invited to take forward the great work of the Rayne Foundation which Robbie has done so much to nurture and develop over the last 47 years. The Foundation plays an essential role in providing much-needed support to some of the UKs most deserving charities. I am looking forward to working with the excellent staff and trustees to deliver the Foundation’s new strategy which will see it focus on mental health, social care and refugees and to help its charities go beyond grantmaking by aiding collaboration, developing solutions and sharing learning.’
Notes:
The Rayne Foundation is an independent grant-making trust. Our purpose is to effect and promote positive social change through enabling charitable organisations and their leaders to:
1. realise their potential;
2. respond to the most challenging needs and neglected issues;
3. develop and share solutions; and
4. create a fairer society.
We make grants, convene and enable partnerships, draw out and share learning and seek to effect direct improvements in services and people’s lives.
