Space science and exploration are facing challenges. That's why we collaborated with the American Geophysical Union, the American Astronomical Society (AAS), in conjunction with the newly formed Congressional Planetary Science Caucus to host a briefing for congressional staff on NASA's achievements and the current challenges posed by the proposed budget. Discover how we advocated for space science, job security, and the future of exploration. ⬇️ Special thanks to our speakers: - Dr. Jim Bell, planetary scientist and Planetary Society board member - Dr. Ralph Mcnutt, The Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory - Dr. Paul Cassak, West Virginia University - Dr. Alycia Weinberger, Carnegie Science - and Jack Kiraly, Planetary Society, Director of Government Relations for coordinating the event and moderating the panel.

116 years ago today, a 30-meter asteroid or comet exploded in the atmosphere over Tunguska, Russia, flattening 80 million trees across 2,150 square kilometers. The explosion was 1,000 times more powerful than the Hiroshima atomic bomb. Luckily, it happened in a remote area of Siberia, and nobody is thought to have been killed. June 30, the date of the event, is now recognized by the United Nations as a day to raise awareness about the risks of asteroid impacts. Today, we have the tools to avoid the same fate as the dinosaurs. 🦖☄️ Donate today and help us support planetary defense and protect Earth: https://bit.ly/4cF4vc1
