Just last week the County of Marin scored a historic conservation victory for its residents by taking ownership of the San Geronimo Commons, a former golf course and now a public park open to the entire community. Dennis Rodoni, President of the Marin County Board of Supervisors, led efforts to defeat Measure D in 2020 which would have blocked the county from acquiring the land. As Rodoni himself puts it, “This purchase reflects the county’s commitment to protect, connect, and restore this property for our community”. The San Geronimo Commons will become a hub of ecosystem revitalization, a protected habitat for wildlife, and open space to serve West Marin for years to come. A portion of the land will eventually become the site of the headquarters of the Marin County Fire Department, shortening response times and increasing public safety due to its more central location. The Next Generation is proud to have worked with The Trust for Public Land, Supervisor Rodoni and all who contributed to putting the sustainable future of Marin County first.
Commending the impressive work of our client, District 12 Assemblymember Damon Connolly. In his second year working in our State’s Capitol, Connolly sent 16 bills through the Assembly and up to the Senate. More impressive than the sheer volume of work Connolly has produced is the dedication he has shown to the issues Californian’s are concerned about: the wellbeing of our #children and the #environment. Connolly has made great headway in using legislation to create a safer environment for our children, and strengthening regulations for the use of harmful pesticides near schools. Connolly is also spearheading expanded protections for endangered wetlands and access to clean drinking water. Last year 5 of his bills were signed into law. We call that making a difference.
