Case Western Reserve University's Milton and Tamar Maltz Performing Arts Center is one of the many projects we have worked on in the Midwest. This project was the conversion of the historically landmarked Temple-Tifereth Israel into Case Western Reserve University’s Milton and Tamar Maltz Performing Arts Center. The Lighting Practice joined the project team to design architectural lighting for all FOH and BOH spaces as well as exterior lighting for the site and building. TLP implemented the design concepts using 100% high color rendering white LED luminaires and a digital dimming system. The centerpiece of the project was the conversion of the synagogue’s main sanctuary into a concert hall, including the conversion of the historic luminaires to LED sources. TLP accented the former Synagogue’s unique exterior features using dimmable white LED sources. TLP’s project areas also included smaller performance spaces, instructional rooms, production areas, and public lobbies. TLP worked closely with the design team and contractors to provide a facility that celebrates the building’s historical architecture with the best modern technologies. #chicagoarchitecture #chicagoarchitect #chicagolightingdesigner #chicago #lightingdesigner #lighitngdesign #lightingsolutions #

Award Winner Wednesday comes out of the Midwest, UC Health! 🏥 IES Philadelphia: Section Award for Interior Lighting Design, 2023 The University of Cincinnati Medical Center wanted to improve their main entry and lobby to create a more welcoming environment for their patients and visitors. Linear fixtures recessed into the entry canopy draw visitors into the lobby and provide efficient light to the site for improved safety and function. In the lobby space, The Lighting Practice strategically backlit the low ceilings, making the space feel less cavernous and more open. Illuminating the walls balances the electric light with the abundant daylight in the space. The Lighting Practice (TLP), a leading national lighting consultant, has opened a new office in Chicago, IL. Led by Senior Lighting Designer Brian W., LC, Associate IALD, the firm’s fourth location will accommodate its rapid growth and serve as a base for local and national projects. “This city’s rich architectural heritage and innovative spirit align perfectly with TLP’s commitment to pushing the boundaries of lighting design,” exclaims Brian Wiley, Senior Lighting Designer, “Having a presence in Chicago enables TLP to be at the heart of architectural innovation, allowing us to collaborate more closely with leading architects and designers who shape the skyline and built environment”. Brian’s professional career began in Chicago where he spent six years practicing lighting design, before joining The Lighting Practice in 2022. His return to Chicago allows him to reconnect with the city that shaped his career and personal life by immersing himself once again in its thriving design scene, contributing to its architectural landscape, and enjoying the sense of community that makes Chicago so special. “This proximity fosters stronger relationships and more effective communication, which are essential for delivering bespoke lighting solutions that enhance and complement architectural masterpieces,” says Brian. The Chicago market, and the Midwest as a whole, is not uncharted territory for The Lighting Practice. The firm has been part of many projects in the Midwest, such as University of Cincinnati Medical Center, Downtown Market Grand Rapids, Target Chicago Streeterville, The Milton & Tamar Maltz Performing Arts Center at Case Western Reserve University, University of Michigan C.S. Mott Children’s Hospital & Von Voigtlander Women’s Hospital, and Fanatics Sportsbook Columbus. “It is only natural for us to call the city our new home to support not only Chicago, but the greater Midwest design community,” explains The Lighting Practice President Michael Barber, Associate IALD, LEED AP BD+C. Enhancing our presence in a key architectural region fosters closer collaboration with industry leaders and supports the continued growth of The Lighting Practice, allowing the firm to deliver innovative lighting designs nation-wide.
