Please join us in welcoming Maria Steil, MD to The Iowa Clinic Plastic Surgery department! Dr. Steil brings her passion for patient-focused care and surgical artistry to The Iowa Clinic Plastic Surgery department. With a background in both private practice and academic medicine, Dr. Steil felt that TIC was the best place to focus on providing exceptional patient care within a physician-led organization. As a plastic surgeon, Dr. Steil enjoys the opportunity to work on every part of the body with every type of patient. From intricate facial reconstructions to body enhancements, Dr. Steil finds reward in her work after helping her patients achieve a goal they have longed for. An Iowa native, Dr. Steil attended the University of Iowa for medical school and later completed her residency at The University of Texas Medical Branch. As part of her training in residency, Dr. Steil completed a rotation at MD Anderson Cancer Center, where she spent time learning reconstructive surgery. She also spent time at Shriners Burn Institute, where she trained in both acute burns and burn reconstruction in children. Outside of work, she enjoys spending time with family, baking, crafting, painting, and sewing. Besides plastic surgery, Dr. Steil might have pursed facial prosthetics to help patients who may have experienced loss due to a traumatic injury or cancer. Dr. Michel joined The Iowa Clinic to be part of a physician-owned clinic dedicated to providing exceptional patient care. As a pediatrician, Dr. Michel is passionate about caring for children and developing strong relationships with her patients and their families. As both a mom and doctor, Dr. Michel brings a unique perspective to her practice, understanding parental concerns and striving to provide solid, evidence-based advice to help parents make the best decisions for their families. A lifelong Iowan, Dr. Michel grew up in Dubuque where she pursued her undergraduate at Drake University, and later completed her medical degree and pediatric residency at the University of Iowa Stead Family Children’s Hospital. Outside of work, Dr. Michel enjoys spending time with her husband and three boys, staying active outdoors, exploring new places, or curling up with a good book. Not only will this new space continue to bolster the Population Health team's mission, but it will also better accommodate patients utilizing the Diabetic Education services. GI and Endoscopy providers and staff had a great morning at Crohn's & Colitis Foundation Take Steps walk! This walk aims to honor those living with Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis, fund research and provide education and resources. #TICGivesBack

In 2022, The Iowa Clinic Healthcare Foundation supported KICK IT FORWARD to develop two mini soccer pitches at Harding Middle School, which encourages kids to develop athletic and life skills through soccer. Needless to say, they are a hit! ⚽ Yesterday, the Foundation proudly presented KIF with a check to support building several additional mini pitches at local Des Moines Public Schools. We look forward to continuing seeing the progress and opportunities it provides!

Our team of pulmonologists are proud to have the ability to care for patients with the new cryoprobe in partnership with JOHN STODDARD CANCER CENTER! This new biopsy system allows oncology team members to obtain tissue samples from lung cancer patients for faster evaluation of cancer diagnosis, treatment of airway obstructions and tests of tissue.

Today, Chief Operating Officer Brandy Waters and The Iowa Clinic Healthcare Foundation presented Catherine Hillestad, CEO of ADAIR COUNTY HEALTH CENTER INC. DBA MEMORIAL HOSPITAL Foundation with a check to support the relief fund for those affected by the Greenfield tornados. Our thoughts go out to all those affected. We would also like to take a moment to recognize our Trauma department with IOWA METHODIST MEDICAL CENTER who helped to provide care and support the citizens of Greenfield after this tragedy. Thank you for all you do to care for the state of Iowa.

Forming individual connections with patients, progressing them though their program and helping them to achieve their goals is something Maggie finds most rewarding. An Iowa native, Maggie is excited to continue to care for the people of central Iowa. Outside of work, she enjoys spending time with her husband and dog, staying active outdoors, weightlifting, traveling, and spending time with family and friends.
