The HGLF team extends a warm welcome to Hon Lam, our new Career Development and Alumni Officer! As the CDAO, Hon will work with universities to support López Scholars' career needs while also building the López Scholar alumni network. Hon brings with him an array of experience, including extensive operational experience from Austin’s most prominent events at @SXSW and a successful tenure as a Senior Career Consultant at Texas McCombs MBA, where he was instrumental in guiding MBA students to secure roles at top Fortune 50 companies. Hon’s deep passion for career development and community service is evident in his recognition of the Texas McCombs Inclusion Award, the Robert Murff Excellence Award, and the Bernard and Audre Rapoport Service Scholarship. He holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Texas at Austin and a master’s from Miami University in Ohio. We’re thrilled to have you on the team, Hon, and couldn't be more excited for our López Scholars as you help build what's next!
Hector and Gloria López Foundation
Philanthropy
Championing Latino prosperity through advanced education and scholarships for students in Texas.
About us
The mission of the Hector and Gloria López Foundation is to provide post-secondary educational opportunities for Latino students in Texas, specifically students from El Paso, Austin, San Antonio, South Texas, and the Rio Grande Valley. We invest in scholarships and support for students who are Latino, the first in their family to attend college or university, and are financially under-resourced in their ability to pay for advanced education.

HGLF is pleased to announce that Lucy Mendez Polston has been promoted to Chief Program Officer. In this role, she will continue building López Scholars to its full vision, at the helm of university partnerships, as well as leadership development and career and alumni engagement. Lucy has been with HGLF for over two years and has excelled in bringing to life the foundation’s mission and championing López Scholars’ success. Both Lucy and Amy Knop-Narbutis will report directly to HGLF President and CEO, Sergio Rodriguez. Additionally, Hon Lam will be joining the team as HGLF’s Career Development and Alumni Officer. Hon joins HGLF from The University of Texas at Austin where he served as a senior career and talent development advisor. He will aid in the ongoing building of the López Scholars programming and cultivating career development opportunities for Scholars through graduation and beyond, including our alumni network. Furthermore, Nikki Graham Spector will be retiring from HGLF senior leadership post as Philanthropic Director to focus on her personal family commitments. Nikki has been with HGLF for over three years and has been instrumental in building a strong foundation for our organization, from which our work will continue to grow. As such, she will remain connected to HGLF’s work in a consulting capacity. We know that change brings new opportunities, and are excited for what the future holds. Join us in congratulating Lucy, welcoming Hon, and sending our warm wishes to Nikki as they all take this next step.

We at HGLF would like to share a special thanks to the Donors of Color Network for having our President and CEO, Sergio Rodriguez, speak at the Connect + Reflect conference! Sergio shared the Hector and Gloria López Foundation mission and participated in the "Generations of Generosity" panel. Congratulations on a successful gathering, and thank you for providing philanthropists of color a platform to connect, learn, and better the future of giving together.
Thank you Donors of Color Network for letting me tell the origin story of the Hector and Gloria López Foundation at their annual Connect + Reflect conference in Tacoma, Washington. I was privileged to sit on the stage with the Blaine and Preciosa Tamaki Foundation (Blaine Tamaki, Precy Tamaki and Briana Tamaki) on the DOCN panel 'Generations of Generosity' - reflections on different family strategies and challenges. Thanks also to Dolores Garay for facilitating the conversation and bringing together inspiring philanthropists of color from all over the country! Many thanks to Shantel Wilkins for the opportunity.

HGLF supports personal development and is grateful for Veronica’s commitment to ongoing learning and effectively stewarding our assets to fulfill our mission and goals.
