About us
The Health Care Blog (THCB) is one of the oldest blogs in health care--continuously publishing opinions, news, interviews and podcasts since 2003. We cover the business of health care, health care policy and the technologies that are changing (and in some cases failing to change) medicine. All in a punchy and fun way. Matthew Holt is the first author and publisher, but our contributors have included a who's who of health care including leading academics, industry analysts, health care executives, journalists and patients.

There was quite the interesting Medicare fraud scandal recently, with consumers being sent catheters they don' need and ACOs being charged for them. #IssacSmith has some thoughts about the implications https://lnkd.in/geMyvSf4

We can't get Mike Magee to write much about health care any more, but this piece--about the turnover at the top in Presidential politics--is pretty interesting given both candidates are not exactly spring chickens...and, yeah, one was nearly killed last weekend--with the shooter interested in killing both! https://lnkd.in/gSZrC8g2

America's public health IT infrastructure which was exposed by the pandemic as a bit of a mess. CRISP Shared Services, Innsena and partners are part of a $255m CDC grant to help public health departments upgrade their technology and get on the same page about reporting for all the good reasons we heard about in the pandemic. I talked to Craig Behm & Britteny Matero about what public health IT looks like and how they’re going to change it! https://lnkd.in/gqC8FkQJ

Do you understand why Google is laying out $23bn on a 4 year old cybersecurity company named after a defunct electronics chain? Kim Bellard dives into the story to explain https://lnkd.in/dppEsrvP

If you hadn't noticed, digital health VC is back. This year looks like an up year and back at 2019 if not 2021 levels. And $100-$200m rounds are common enough that there have been 3 or 4 in the past 3 weeks. But how does the math compute given there are only 11 publicly traded companies in digital health worth more than $1bn? Not well is Matthew Holt's conclusion--in fact, there is no exit https://lnkd.in/gvxxeFKY

Avalon Healthcare Solutions' CEO is Pamela Stahl and she explained to Matthew Holt how the world of labs works, how there's lots of practice and price variation (surprise!) and what her company does about it! https://lnkd.in/gh9hgQTv

Mike Magee is very concerned about Trump, the 2025 project and more in the light of last weeks post-debate focus on Biden. https://lnkd.in/ghF8YxrK

Fabulous article from Michael Millenson in which he lays out the history of physicians who have helped patients declare their "independence". The patient movement has depended on some giants helping make medicine participatory. Michael explains how this changed from Dr Spock to Tom Ferguson and more... https://lnkd.in/gt9Hn9-m
