This prestigious recognition underscores our dedication to revitalizing Bronzeville’s 43rd Street Corridor and providing equitable housing solutions that benefit the entire community. Located at 4308 S. Calumet Ave, 43 Green is a $200 million Equitable Transit Oriented Development (ETOD) that combines affordable and market-rate housing with community-focused retail services. This project has been a catalyst for revitalizing a historically significant area, spurring further investments and developments. From its inception, the community's support for 43 Green has been tremendous, achieving full occupancy within just four months. The impact of 43 Green extends beyond its physical presence, with Phase 2 set to open later this year and additional investments like the CTA's $10 million enhancement of the 43rd Street Green Line station. This award from LISC Chicago #CNDA is a testament to the power of collaboration and community-driven development. On June 6th, we had the pleasure of hosting the #grandopening and ribbon-cutting ceremony for #CassidyonCanal, and it was a resounding success! With over 100 attendees, we showcased the best of what our new development has to offer. Our guests enjoyed passed hors d'oeuvres from East Bank Club and a delightful welcome drink, The Cassidy. They explored our stunning studio, one-, and two-bedroom model units, and marveled at the unobstructed views during guided tours of our #PenthouseCollection. One of the event’s highlights was the unveiling of our custom sculpture, which incorporates 200 bricks repurposed from the original #CassidyTire structure. This unique piece beautifully ties our development to the rich history of the site. We also showcased the impressive exterior, elegant lobby, and luxurious amenity spaces. This event wouldn’t have been possible without the collaboration of our partners, Diversified Real Estate Capital and the exceptional work of McHugh Construction. Habitat’s Jeff Head met with The Real Deal's Emma Whalen to discuss Illinois’ #AffordableHousingPlanningandAppealAct and the significant challenges it has faced over the past 20 years. As Vice President of Development at #HabitatAffordableGroup, Jeff highlights a crucial issue: the additional costs—both financial and emotional—developers face due to the extensive educational and political processes involved. As Jeff states, "Affordable housing gets a lot of people’s nerves agitated as it is. If there is a big education process and a significant political argument involved, it increases the financial cost and the emotional cost of going in and digging into an argument for a project that a significant portion of people don’t want." The recent amendments to the law aim to address these challenges by allowing local housing nonprofits and potential residents to appeal the denial of affordable housing proposals.
