It's amazing to me how people and companies miss the point. Let's go through the hiring process ($$), find a great candidate ($$), and then quibble about PTO. People will give you more than the value you require if you treat their needs as important. That is why our leaders have said "no" to having someone dictate where, when, and how to work. We take our "why" and let that drive us. We understand that if someone wants to achieve their goals, give them the tools and freedom to use them, and they will do it. Micromanaging PTO will never earn a company respect; it actually creates the opposite. Want to know more about our differences? Let's talk 704-605-0622

I was offered a VP job with 10 days of PTO, non-negotiable. TEN DAYS. That includes sick and vacation time. When I tried to negotiate, I was told they are a public company so they couldn't offer different PTO options (umm.. I've worked for 3 public companies; PTO is ALWAYS negotiable). When I asked if I could get in writing that I could take 1-2 more weeks of unpaid PTO, I was told no. The CEO also told me during my interview that she wished they had better work/life balance, and she knows it's hard (for working moms like me, but it’s hard for eveyone!) but that's just not how the company works right now. I should have stopped right there and ended the interview. The hiring manager assured me she is flexible with time, but I learned long ago if it's not in writing, it's not real. The best part? The agency recruiter who I was working with told me she needed an answer the same day the offer was made. I told her I wanted to negotiate the PTO. She told me I likely couldn't. The pressure was real. Women often struggle the most with knowing our worth and how to negotiate effectively. But every person — man or woman should. Whether they say yes or no, always know what you're worth. Always know what matters most to you. And ALWAYS ASK FOR IT. Even in a tough job market, don't undervalue yourself (but be reasonable). Know what your non-negotiables are. Remember, most things are negotiable but the answer is ALWAYS no if you don't ask. Be a good human #negotiations #workingmom #PTO #worklifeharmony
