Using AI? Learn How, Says the American Bar Association to Lawyers in a Formal Opinion Yesterday the American Bar Association published a formal opinion, declaring that under the ABA Model Rules of Professional Conduct, lawyers using generative AI have a “duty of competence” to develop an “understanding of the evolving nature of GAI.” This is why InnovateUS is launching a new #GenAI for Public Lawyers course this fall. My takeaway on the opinion: the ABA is recognizing the benefits of GAI but is requiring lawyers to: 1) Obtain truly informed consent from the client, explaining all the risks involved, 2) Ensure no confidential information is input into a GAI system, 3)Thoroughly verify all outputs for accuracy, and 4) Use GAI for general tasks that don't involve specific client information. https://lnkd.in/dnbXcGQ6

🚀LAUNCH: First Ever Catalog of Examples on How Open Data and Generative AI Intersect ✏️Throughout this year, The GovLab’s Open Data Policy Lab has been investigating how generative artificial intelligence (AI) and large language models can intersect with official open data sources and the potential for a new “Fourth Wave of Open Data.” 📄In May, we published a report outlining 5️⃣ scenarios in which open data and generative AI intersect (pre-training, adaptation, inference and insight generation, data augmentation, and open-ended exploration), supported by various case studies. 💡This new observatory takes this work to the next level by providing 50+ examples of how these scenarios are being implemented in several fields. A few key takeaways from these examples ⬇️ - Governments around the world are beginning to use generative AI to improve public services, from chatbots to other specialized tools. - While the majority of examples identified are in English, generative AI initiatives for non-English language support are emerging.  - There are several examples of generative AI being utilized to improve medical research and healthcare delivery.
