Yesterday, The Economic Club of Washington, D.C. celebrated National Intern Day by hosting the Summer Capstone Presentations for the David M. Rubenstein/Economic Club of Washington, D.C. Scholars. This event marks the culmination of our scholars' summer internship experience, providing them with a platform to summarize their experiences and newly acquired skills to Economic Club members and their internship managers. The Capstone Presentation is more than just a summary; it is the launching pad for these scholars' future #careers. It encapsulates our commitment to nurturing the next generation of leaders and demonstrates the tangible impact of the Scholars program. Special thanks to the Members and Executive Fellows who served as coaches for the event. We are proud to celebrate the hard work and learning of these 35 Rubenstein Economic Club Scholars over the last seven weeks. Today, I had the pleasure of attending a signature event of The Economic Club of Washington, D.C., featuring an insightful interview by David Rubinstein with Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell. Chairman Powell delved into the importance of an independent Federal Reserve Board, providing a detailed explanation of the composition and governance of the FOMC. One of the key takeaways was the massive amount of data and forecasting that goes into the Federal Reserve’s decision-making process. Chairman Powell’s leadership style stood out as collaborative and deliberate, showcasing his strong rapport with fellow governors. His deep understanding of the Federal Reserve system and his ability to steer it effectively are truly commendable. I was particularly inspired by his comment that what he does “doesn’t feel like work,” highlighting his passion for his role and the wisdom he has gained from his predecessors. I feel that in my own work everyday at Accenture as we work with our clients, our people and our community to bring the power of technology and human ingenuity. A big thank you to the Economic Club of DC for continuously bringing thought leadership to civic and business leaders. It was also a fantastic opportunity to network and catch up with Scott Kratz from the 11th Street Bridge Park. Federal Reserve Board Chair Jerome Powell said Monday that the central bank will not wait until inflation hits 2% to cut interest rates. Speaking at The Economic Club of Washington, D.C., Powell referenced the idea that central bank policy works with “long and variable lags” to explain why the Fed wouldn’t wait for its target to be hit. “The implication of that is that if you wait until inflation gets all the way down to 2%, you’ve probably waited too long, because the tightening that you’re doing, or the level of tightness that you have, is still having effects which will probably drive inflation below 2%,” Powell said.
