About us

Established in 2007 by Andrew Gibbs, Dieline has become the leading media brand for consumer packaging and consumer brands. Dieline is committed to supporting the advancement of the package design industry in all its forms. Our website began as a platform for the industry to share design innovation and creativity through original editorial content, and reader-submitted projects. Our platform grew to include Dieline Awards, our global package design competition, and Dieline Conference, our annual package design event. Dieline is the world’s most visited packaging design website, and it highlights the importance and value of packaging design for brands in today’s world. In 2018, Dieline has evolved into a high-level bespoke creative platform for package designers, brand designers, consumer brands, agencies, suppliers, sustainability experts, students, and packaging manufacturers. With our new platform, Dieline’s core focus for 2019 and beyond is to build a global community of packaging designers and to advocate the packaging industry towards more sustainable solutions through creativity and innovation.

The Dieline’s Design For Good Award category celebrates the incredible impact of design dedicated to vital causes. Since 2020, this award has recognized creatives whose work promotes positivity, kindness, and social responsibility. The category is open to any #CPG products designed to enhance the quality of life, and it emphasizes projects that foster accessibility, whether through non-profit initiatives or charitable causes. The entry for this category is free, ensuring inclusivity for all impactful projects that give back and showcase stunning design. Our 2024 winner, Chris Wilson of the Glasgow-based agency Stckmn, won for his design for The Scottish Malt Whisky Society’s “The Only Drop, ” a uniquely crafted whisky celebrating the organization’s 40th anniversary. The design features a stunning paper sculpture on the bottle incorporating wood shavings from whisky casks. Meanwhile, a ripple #design in the paper represents the spirit, with a cut-out single drop highlighting the incredibly limited release. “The Only Drop” was auctioned at Sotheby’s to raise money for The Youth Action Fund, a group that collaborates with various charities to improve the life chances of disadvantaged young people in Scotland. We sat down with Wilson to learn more about the story behind the award-winning design and its impactful craftsmanship. Read and see more on The Dieline! https://lnkd.in/eNByVWUr

Widakk Design crafted a series of labels for Queensland Distillery Co.’s new range of rums. The Australian distillery draws #inspiration from the Brisbane River, also known locally as the “brown snake.” The labels seamlessly blend the river’s winding course with the serpentine form of a snake, reflecting Brisbane’s rich heritage. The #design also features intricate illustrations by Dalibor Momcilovic that capture the essence of the river and its significance to the city. Design Bridge and Partners explicitly leaned into the high art look with their designs for Pastiglie Leone. The opportunity for a subtle Grand Budapest Hotel nod became obvious when research on the brand’s history led the studio to images of the beautifully constructed old Leone factory, “whose architecture, [color] and filigree ironwork oozed Wes Anderson vibes,” a statement said. Design Bridge used the imagery to create a fantasy of automation, full of (naturally) candy-colored conveyor belts pouring swirly, satisfying textures into their boxes. Recently, Reddit user NekoLu shared a DIY Pringles project that upgrades and adds a dash of luxury with lots of craftwork. Based on the language used on the #packaging, the video appears to be from Korea. It shows someone using the Pringles can as a base for an opulent, leather-wrapped tube that dispenses morsels out the bottom via an added slide-out mechanism. What’s most impressive about this Pringles leather sling is the attention to detail. The designer even created a custom metal badge to attach to the Pringles sling. The Coca-Cola Company launched its Dasani brand of bottled water in 1999. In the quarter century since, they’ve been a category leader, but it didn’t go unnoticed that they were losing ground to newer brands with more visual appeal (we’re assuming it’s a brand that rhymes with “Schmiquid Breath”). Recognizing the need for a #brandrefresh, Dasani contacted Taxi Studio to help revitalize its identity and maintain its market position with an updated look anchored by a new #logotype and #colorpalette. The “S” in Dasani is elongated and more reminiscent of gentle, lapping water waves, while surrounding letterforms are simplified and modernized. Additionally, Dasani went with a “celeste blue” for its new colorway. The new visual identity is more serene and aquatic, and the simplified presentation is contemporary and more sophisticated. Continuing the H2O fest, wave-like labels lend more interest and shelf appeal than the previously standard straight-edged design, while the updated copy emphasizes Dasani’s clean, crisp, and refreshing qualities.
