We are pleased to announce today that Christine Scheuneman, J.D., of Orange County, California, United States, has been awarded the prestigious Certificate in Risk Governance®. Christine is an independent director and the chair of the Risk and Compliance Committee at Farmers & Merchants Bank of Long Beach, where she also serves as a member of the Nomination and Governance Committee. She is chair of the board of directors of the Girl Scouts of Orange County, where she also chairs the Audit Committee. She is a member of the board of directors of the Orange County United Way, where she serves on the Finance Committee and the Advocacy Committee. Christine serves as a member of the Advisory Boards for the Center for Real Estate at the University of California, Irvine - The Paul Merage School of Business and the Serenbetz Institute for Women’s Leadership, Social Responsibility and Global Awareness at Cottey College. She previously served as board chair and chair of the Audit and Risk Committee and Trusteeship (Governance) Committee for the Cottey College Board of Trustees. In her executive work, Christine most recently served as a partner with Pillsbury Winthrop Shaw Pittman LLP and is an admitted attorney at the U.S. Supreme Court, the Supreme Court of California, and the Illinois Supreme Court. Christine earned her J.D. from the DePaul University College of Law, her BA from The University of Kansas, and her AA from Cottey College. She is also an NACD (National Association of Corporate Directors) Board Leadership Fellow. Among her many awards, in 2016 Christine was named one of California's 100 Most Powerful Women and received the LEAP for Justice Award. In 2017, she received the Financial Times North America Most Innovative Lawyers commendation, and in 2020 was given the Cottey College Distinguished Alumna Award. “Christine already has an impressive list of board service, including leading roles in risk governance in both the for-profit and nonprofit sectors,” said David R. Congratulations to Zelda Roscherr on receiving permission to use the Qualified Risk Director® designation. She is the first person in South Africa to receive this global distinction. Zelda is an independent non-executive director for the FirstRand group, the largest financial services group in South Africa by market capitalization. She is the chairperson of the Board Risk Committee and is a member of the Audit Committee. She also chairs the advisory board of an asset manager and the risk committee of an investment bank. Zelda serves as a board trustee for a large South African empowerment foundation, which is a public benefit organization. She is currently the chairperson of its disbursement committee and serves on the investment committee. She has more than 30 years of financial services experience in various executive as well as advisory roles, holding positions as head of fixed income, currencies, and commodities, bank treasurer, and specialist risk consultant in the past. Zelda received degrees in mathematics, econometrics, and statistics from the University of Johannesburg and a Master's degree in Global Finance from the Bayes Business School (UK). Congratulations to Karen McBride, MBA, C. Dir., ORMP on receiving permission to use the Qualified Risk Director@ designation. Karen serves as a board member, member of the risk committee, and chair of the audit committee for Innovation Federal Credit Union – the third credit union in Canada to achieve federal status. With more than forty years of experience in the financial services industry, her prior senior and C-suite roles spanned a variety of fields, including serving as chief risk officer and chief compliance officer for Concentra Financial and chief risk officer for SaskCentral. She has led the development and design of risk frameworks, served as a frequent conference speaker, and engaged at a national advisory level on pandemic preparedness and response, and currently leads her own risk advisory business. Her international experience includes financial cooperatives in Malawi and Ghana, with a primary focus on risk, regulatory compliance, and leadership development.   Karen holds a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from Queen's University, a Masters Certificate in Operational Risk Management from Schulich School of Business - York University, an ORMP designation from the International Council for Operational Risk Management, and most recently, the Certificate in Risk Governance® from The DCRO Institute, and a C. She is a former board member at Golomt Bank, in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia where she worked to improve the board governance and risk management functions of the bank. She has served as chairperson of the board at Golomt Capital LLC and as a member of the board of directors for Mandal Insurance LLC and the Mongolia Stock Exchange.
