The Zinc Mark | Earlier this year we welcomed the 7th site obtaining The Zinc Mark. Since late 2022 zinc is incorporated in the Copper Mark assurance framework. Producers in mining, smelting/refining and fabrication of zinc can apply for The Zinc Mark by meeting the 33 criteria for environmental performance, social behavior and governance as defined in the Risk Readiness Assessment Criteria Guide. (RRA) A key strength of the standard is the independent third-party assessment of sites. News | MILESTONE FOR THE COPPER MARK: 100 PARTICIPATING SITES The Copper Mark has reached the milestone of 100 participating sites. Molymex, a molybdenum roaster in México joins as the 100th active participant, demonstrating the growth and expansion of The Copper Mark Assurance Framework into other metals and along the value chain. Of these sites, 77 have received The Copper Mark, The Molybdenum Mark, The Nickel Mark, and/or The Zinc Mark. In terms of copper production, more than 1/3 of the world’s mined copper comes from sites that have The Copper Mark. The growth in the number of sites demonstrates the progress made in ensuring responsible practices in the copper, molybdenum, nickel, and zinc value chains. Michèle Brülhart, Executive Director of The Copper Mark, stated, “We are proud of this significant milestone for the Copper Mark. Our framework supports sites in demonstrating their ESG performance and committing to continuous improvement, which is of paramount importance in view of the globally pursued energy transition. The Copper Mark - The Molybdenum Mark - The Zinc Mark Award | Buenavista del Cobre Congratulations to Grupo México for Buenavista del Cobre mine in Sonora, Mexico, achieving The Copper Mark as well as the Zinc and Molybdenum Marks! This achievement reflects the mine's performance in environmental, social and governance matters and covers all products produced on site. The Copper Mark’s Joint Due Diligence Standard has been fully approved as a LME Track A standard! A big thank you to the London Metal Exchange (LME) for recognizing our efforts and congratulating us. The approval is the result of a robust third-party OECD Alignment Assessment. 

Case study Tenke Fungurume | first mine in Africa awarded The Copper Mark In the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Tenke Fungurume Mining (TFM) was the very first mine in Africa to be awarded The Copper Mark in the spring of 2024. The Nickel Mark | Update Last month we welcomed the 6th site to obtain The Nickel Mark. Nickel was incorporated into the Copper Mark assurance framework in July 2022. Miners, smelters/refiners and fabricators of nickel can apply for The Nickel Mark by meeting the criteria for environmental, social and governance performance as defined in the Risk Readiness Assessment (RRA) Criteria Guide.
