I was super excited about the inaugural upstate NYSSCPA - The New York State Society of CPAs Moynihan Scholarship Fund gala, in this the tenth year of the Fund and I see that my excitement was not misplaced. All reports say it was an amazing event where we honored the Moynihan family, Joe Falbo, CPA, CGMA , J. Michael Kirkland , and The Bonadio Group, champions of building a strong and inclusive pipeline to the profession. I refer to reports because I was unable to attend. I am in Zimbabwe with family for my brother’s wedding. However, I left knowing that the gala was in beyond capable hands. I cannot thank Nadia-Maria Matthie, CPA , MSF president-elect and chair of the fundraising committee, enough. Nadia, your focus, hard work, and commitment were key to the success of the gala. Key!!! Thank you, thank you, thank you!! To the NYSSCPA staff and our CEO, Calvin Harris Jr., CPA, thank you for helping make this essential event a success. To all who attended and supported in other ways, thank you for all you do to invest in the pipeline and thank you for celebrating outstanding role models. Finally, a rose from my mother’s gaeden.

Sometimes you get lucky. And I got lucky that my schedule allowed me to attend the 2024 NYSSCPA - The New York State Society of CPAs Moynihan Scholarship Fund Gala in Syracuse NY! What an extraordinary member event! I met so many members and witnessed Calvin Harris Jr., CPA given a master class in scholarship fund solicitation as the generous group on hand made this a very successful event - the funds raised tonight will be impactful to the individual people who get them but also to the profession as a whole as an important pipeline initiative. I am so glad I learned about the amazing David Moynihan, the namesake of the scholarship program, from his friends and family. …Also how privileged to be in attendance when all star members J. Michael Kirkland and Joe Falbo, CPA, CGMA were recognized for their amazing contributions to the profession. And Todd Klaben accepted on behalf of The Bonadio Group. James S.
